Virginia Tech, JMU, CNU, and GMU are my top 4 in that order.
I’m currently a junior at a public high school in the NoVa area.
Current weighted GPA is 3.13 (due to me just completely messing up my freshmen and sophomore year), but with all the APs I’m taking and doing well in it’ll probably go up to a 3.4 -3.5.
SAT: 1400 ACT: 30 , but I’m taking both tests again soon.
Extracurriculars: international club, volunteering at various robotics events, over 40 hours of volunteering at cultural and religious events, interning at my dad’s software company (last summer and probably this summer as well); I also plan on doing debate club my senior year, doing some kind of political volunteering this summer, and taking an online summer class or two to further increase my GPA at whatever minuscule level.
Also, my brother is currently a freshman and VT (engineering) so that may help slightly. But I’m also put at a disadvantage, being an asian male from NOVA.
Your GPA is on the low side but if you can get it up to a 3.5 you have a good shot at all but VT which might be a reach. Your SAT and ACT scores are great though and you probably won’t even have to retake so that actually might help with VT a little. If you’re going for a liberal arts major for VT you might have a solid shot but I would say you might be a little short for engineering or business, but you can always go in undecided and transfer. I too had a rocky freshman year and I brought my grades up over the years and have been accepted into ODU HONORS, VCU, GMU, and CNU and am just waiting for VT to release descisions. (My stats are 3.61 W GPA and 1210 SAT (took ACT but got a pretty low score so I didn’t even bother sending it.)) I would just worry about getting your GPA up as high as you can and have a great junior year!
Also VT has a thing on their website that breaks down GPA and test scores for each major and department on their website. I believe the average is around a 3.9ish and is lower amongst the liberal arts and goes up within STEM and Business. Hope this helps! Good luck!
I know tech and JMU are keeping an eye on nova candidates, so those two might be harder. That being said, CNU ,JMU and GMU are probably going to be easy shots, and tech might be a little harder depending on your major. Good luck!
