<p>Hi I got into the college of letters of science and i know that to get into HSSEAS UCLA will consider my senior portfolio or I will have to take certain prerequisites. And I was just wondering how likely i will get in with a 1860 (SAT) and 3.85 weighted gpa 3.69(unweight) with 9 total AP classes taken. AND what would be a decent gpa to get into HSSEAS?</p>
<p>Hello. I've spoken with a(n) HSSEAS counselor. I can't tell you what your chances are from your high school record. I just know that at the beginning of fall quarter, you can apply to the HSSEAS school from CL&S and they will determine whether or not you would've been admitted to HSSEAS originally. If you do not get accepted, you take the lower-division courses for your desired major and you can re-apply to HSSEAS. Generally, they want B's or better in those courses. If you don't do so hot in first-quarter chemistry but do well in second-quarter chemistry and in subsequent classes, they will consider your improvement. What she emphasized most was that this was a highly individualistic process and that they do not use GPA cut-offs, score cut-offs, or have a number of students that they have to admit to the school per quarter. What is important is grade trends in those courses that count, your reasons for transferring, and also if you have done your research and can show that engineering is for you (the essay in other words). I asked her about average GPAs admitted but she did not give me specific values. Also she did not give me information about the acceptance rate in any given quarter. Neither did she give me the number of petitions in a typical quarter. There is just a lot of anecdotal information floating around on the forum about CL&S --> HSSEAS transfer. It seems no one can find the actual numbers or average GPAs so that the idea cannot be numerically supported. We just have "Difficult" "Super difficult" "I don't know anyone who was successful."</p>

<p>He has only mentioned anecdotal information. At one point, he mentioned some his friends/associates with A's in courses such as CHEM20A and still being denied by HSSEAS. </p>
<p>Also, some engineering majors are more difficult to get into others (e.g. EE and BioE).</p>
<p>Is computer engineering really competitive?</p>
