I was recently rejected from Emory and deferred from Georgia Tech as a Georgia resident. Though my stats are not stellar, I felt that I was well-qualified for both schools, especially for Emory ED.
I strongly feel that these depressing results come from my Common App essay, which I failed to really write about myself in a great detail; it contained a lot of clichés. But of course, when I wrote it, I thought it was good, so I used it for both Emory and GT.
So I wrote a new Common App essay for my Regular Decision schools and was wondering if I can replace this essay for the essay I used for GT.
Pretty sure deferred applicants can submit and ADDITIONAL essay but I could be wrong depends on each school’s policy. If it’s the same exact topic just written better, I doubt it would help much.
You can’t submit an additional essay to a school you have already applied to. Well, you can try, but they won’t look at it. Why would you be allowed to do that, and no one else? Ususally, it is clearly indicated on the college’s website what additional materials can be submitted. Usually things such as arts supplements and maybe one extra letter of recommendation are the only extra supplements allowed. Or something significant such as an invention, or your TED talk. NOT an extra essay because you don’t like the first one you submitted.
You CAN send updated information to the regional rep, such as awards recieved, or any kind of significant achievement.
For the benefit of others, this is a very good illustration of why it’s important to let a couple of people look at your essay before submitting it.
usually if you log into your portal theres an area where you can. If not, you can email it to your admissions rep. If they consider it, great, if they don’t, I highly doubt it’ll hurt to try
