I was deferred from Penn's ED pool. Although chances are I'll get rejected, I re-worked my common app essay from what it originally was and I think overall, it's a better essay. Is it possible to send this essay to Penn and have them consider this new one rather than the one I originally sent in for the second round?
Thanks!

I’m not sure; I don’t know if you can necessarily go back and “change” an application you already submitted. Being deferred is similar to a waitlist—and if you’re waitlisted its not helpful to just go and send a new essay. It’s really unlikely that an essay would change the results.

BUT I wouldn’t be surprised if they let you add the new essay on.

Email your regional director. He’s in charge of your application. Although, I really do believe that sending more information regarding extracurriculars and new achievements would be far more beneficial. Nothing wrong with trying though!
