I recently chose to start taking Portuguese starting my first semester freshman year. Is there anyone else who is starting a new language? If so, will you continue the language you were learning earlier?

My freshman year, I started 2 new languages (German and Italian) while continuing Latin, which I had studied for 4 years in high school. I took a break from Greek (2 years in high school) because I figured 3 languages was enough. I was right - I don’t think I got as much out of Italian as I could have because I had it just after German and needed more time to switched which language I was thinking in. I stopped Italian after that first year because I wasn’t crazy for it, and I stopped German after 2 years because of scheduling issues, but I’m still doing Latin and Greek. I wish I had more time to take Japanese and French, though.

My freshman year I started Norwegian. It sucked. Class was every day which just killed me.

After nine years of Spanish in elementary, middle, and high school (with a year of French thrown in for entertainment), I’m switching to German. Can’t wait:)

I took 5 years of French despite already being bilingual, and my freshman year I took spanish 101. It was a nice switch, and I’m looking forward to taking a few more spanish courses and hopefully going to Costa Rica next summer for language immersion.
