I was recently admitted to UCLA as an incoming freshman for English, which I was initially favorable about. However, I am now starting to have second thoughts and would like to switch to Pre-Political Science. I know that through the New Bruins page on UCLA Admissions that freshmen can change their majors at New Student Orientation, but I’m worried that I won’t be able to change because political science is more popular. Has anyone changed their major at Orientation and/or have knowledge of these policies?
Question answered in the 2022 Applicant Thread.
English and ps are both in the college of arts and sciences. you can change majors in that school whenever you want (but harder to change from arts and sciences to school of engineering bc difference schools). does not matter that you are showing as an English major now at all. doesnt affect what classes you can enroll in or anything. yes, ps has more students but will not affect your chances of being able to change at all. anyone that wants to can say that they’re ps. the major you have rn just helps them group you by major for orientation so you have a leader thats the same major but then once you get to orientation your leader can change your major for you. and then once youre at school you can change whenever you want (first two quarters, my roommate has changed 3 times). I promise it doesnt matter what your thing says right now. dont stress. even if it seems complicated rn your orientation leader will explain and then you will see its 100% just a matter of what major your profile says and thats the only thing it affects. not enrollment or anything else. please dont let this be a stressor for you.
