Hello, everyone.
So last night I found out (actually somebody on this thread posted! thanks.) that we can still change our major at UCLA after we apply. The dead line is January 31st according to this website: Reporting Changes - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions

I was just wondering if that also applies to "transfer" students since transfer students had to write their personal statement based on their majors. On the website, it doesn't specify that this only applies to freshman applicants. But, if UCLA allows even transfers to change their major after application deadline is past, then I don't see a point.. We already wrote our essay based on our majors.. that just doesn't seem to make sense to me.

And last year one of my friends applied to Berkeley as a Japanese major and she applied to UCLA as a political science major, but her essay was COMPELETELY about her interest in Japanese. She really didn't expect to be admitted to UCLA, because all she wanted was Berkeley. But appreatly, she got accepted to UCLA as a political science major even with her essay only about Japanese.. So as some of the people said, I guess Berkeley is the only school that reads your essay? I don't know. I'm not sure, but some said that to me..

Can anybody tell me if we can still change our major? And about essays? because I'm kind of thinking of changing my major if this works.
I would greatly appreciate if anybody could write me back.

Maybe your friend had stellar grades and EC’s. If you think about it, her interest in Japanese is something that could be an underlying reason for her choosing for Political Science as well. If she had talked about nothing but engineering and then applied as a history major at UCLA, then it might be a little different. I think changing majors might be based on personal characteristics of the student such as how many classes are fulfilled in the desired major and how impacted the desired major is. I know someone that got into UCLA as a music history major, decided she couldn’t do anything with her BA in music history and tried to change to communications. Didn’t happen.

I wouldn’t change it unless it made sense. Example: Applied as a Bus Econ, Econ, or Econ/Int’l major…GPA is a 3.6 or so…obviously the applicant is most likely not getting in. Well if the personal statement is focused around Econ and pre-reqs are finished for Math/Econ and the applicant wouldn’t mind majoring in Math/Econ then this would be the perfect reason to switch majors because the applicant would have a good chance of getting into Math/Econ with a 3.6. Just my 2cents
