Hi guys!

I was recently accepted as a transfer Sociology major at UC Davis for fall 2012. But, I'm thinking that I want to lean more towards Psychology. Has anyone changed majors to Psych at Davis? Is it difficult to do so? I know that at Davis they require you to finish a quarter before changing majors, but is there anything else I should be aware of?

I'd appreciate some answers before I have to SIR since I will most likely be going to Davis next year.

Thank you :)

It’s easy. Just get a Change of Major petition at your dean’s office, get signatures from your old advisor and an advisor from the major you want to switch to, and since Sociology and Psychology are in the same college (College of Letters and Science), you don’t need to get the dean’s signature. After obtaining the signatures, return the petition to your dean’s office and it should take up to 3 weeks to process (I say 3 weeks because that’s how long it took for my suitemate to switch from a Biological Sciences major to an Animal Science major).

Thank you sopranokitty for the quick and detailed response :). I appreciate it!

By the way, if you don’t mind answering…could you possibly tell me what you like/do not like about Davis (pro’s and con’s)? I feel like my heart belongs at Davis, I just want to make sure I am making the right decision for me and for my academic future. Also, I haven’t checked out the campus yet since it’s so far away from where I live. If you don’t want to, no worries just thought I’d try and ask anyway!
