Changing Majors at UCSD?

Anyone know if changing majors after transferring is possible? I applied as a Literature Composite major and was accepted as such but upon taking a closer look, I found out that I actually want to be a Literatures in English major. I was a a bit confused at the time of application since UCI, UCLA, UCB had English as a distinct major, whereas UCSD does not. I honestly didn't fully understand the differences between Literature Composite and Literatures in English when I applied and just bubbled something in (also UCSD is my last choice out of the UCs I applied to, but now that I'm accepted, I realize I should consider everything carefully). My question is, is it difficult to change majors after transfer? What if major I applied to and the major I actually want isn't drastically different (for example, if I had applied as a Literature Composite major and wanted to change to a Business or Bio major).

it’s not that difficult. all you need to use is the major & minor tool (a couple clicks for your new major or a double major) on ucsd student portal (which you’ll have access to once you’re an official student) and make sure all the prereqs to the major you want to change into are done. usually, it’s automatically approved. however, you’ll have to wait until fall quarter starts to change your major (I was told this part in an email) - so you might want to stick with courses that are applicable to your new major for fall quarter so that you don’t waste a quarter. this applies to almost all majors - unless they’re impacted. OR if it’s going to take you over the maximum units cap.

from what i know though, it is practically impossible (okay, not impossible but hard) to change majors after transfer at ucla, and that at uc berkeley it’s relatively easier than ucla. compared to those two schools though, it’s completely easier at ucsd)

Thanks so much!

@silvertongues Looks like we applied to the same exact schools in the same exact major… In other words, we’re arch enemies.
