channing bowditch apts. vs yori wada apts.

Any comments?

Sure. These are only for transfer or upper-classmen, IE third year students or above- these are not deteremined by class rank by units, much to some of my friends' dismay. Wada looks like the other new mini-suite buildings, Channing-Bowditch looks a bit different. They are a few hundred feet from each other, very close, Wada in Unit 2, Channing-Bowditch catty-corner and across from Crossroads. I haven't been in either, but hear they're nice.

Thanks DRab, I am a transfer student considering my options. Do you know any pros/cons to each of them?

Unfortunately I do not. Hopefully someone with more knowledge about the two will come and tell us about them. By when do you have to decide?

By June 5--I'm also considering Spens-Black...

yah i know that spens-black is more of a transfer student dorm than the other two but.... wada and bowditch are nicer. But if you want to meet as many people as possible I would suggest looking into Spens because it is not "suite style" like the other two and thus you will have more of an opportunity to meet people. Also I lived in the freshmen dorm Norton next to Spens and from what I remember was that Spens had a lot of international students and transfers who partied... lets say it seemed like fun. However, if you want to study more I would advise either Wada or Channing Bowditch.

You can live in Wada during the academic year only (ie must leave for Christmas break, and leave at end of spring semester).

Channing Bowditch is a 12 month lease.

Wada ~ $7.7k
CB ~ $10k for 12 months

for comparision:
co-ops = $6k for 10 months (food included)

Wada and CB very clean and nice (janitors clean rooms), but you pay the price for it.
co-ops: students clean it. dirty but has many venues for socializing.

Personally I would choose CB if I plan to stay in Berkeley for the summer, if not then Wada.

Thanks for the tips. What if I plan on staying in Berkeley for one summer session, but not the whole summer?

Then your options are: berkeley dorms, rent your own apartment, or co-op. student organizations don't meet over the summer so you won't be missing too much excitement if you do commute (ie living w/ relatives)

Anyone else have any comments?

What else do you want to know?

Does the difference in distance matter that much? Is there an advantage to being in a Unit, in the case of Wada?

Maybe, how difficult the four people, one bathroom thing could be?

FYI Channing Bowditch is a block closer to campus than Wada. It's on the diagonal opposite of the crossroads dining facility.

not difficult at all. that means you can make 3 potential best friends.
