Does anyone know if either of the apartments are particularly social/friendly and conducive to meeting other transfers/upper-div students? I've heard there's not much interaction between apartments within each complex. Does anyone have any input?

joehanus, I live in the Wada apartments now. There is a little interaction between rooms on our floor but nothing crazy. We're all upper-division here so we spend a lot more time studying than the 1st and 2nd years in the other dorms. It's also very drab. There is a lot of concrete used in the building's construction (even the ceilings are concrete). I would definitely recommend a multi-spectrum desklamp if you come here.

I'm moving to Channing-Bowditch in the fall (just signed my agreement). It feels a little bit more like an apartment complex than Wada. I don't know too much about the social scene there but it's a block closer to campus :) It's a bit more expensive too. (but only about $50 a month)

CalBear: A bit more expansive? How much did you pay for wada? I did the calculations and the Channing seems to be 2-3k more expensive. What type of room are you getting in Channing-Bowditch?

I'm paying about $840/mo at Wada for a double. I'll be paying $890/mo at Channing-Bowditch for a double.

So, according to this website, the proposed rate for housing is on a 10 month basis?

Yeah, I think the Wada apts are for 10 months and the C-B ones are offered at 12 months, but you can sign for a lesser amount.

calbear, thanks for your sharing your wisdom, but what exactly do you mean C-B feels more like an apartment complex than Wada? Is Wada a little more like a dorm or something? And you would say the rooms are definitely nicer in C-B than in Wada?

he mentioned that the Wada is covered with cement from top to bottom. Feels like a jail cell to me

are there no windows?

i'm guessing from the outside (ive only seen the outside, but i did peek in the main entrance hallway) that they just have more of an industrial feel rather than a country cottage look.

This seems to come up a lot. Here is some information I've written about Wada in a past thread.

nuveen, I think it's against building code to have a bedroom without windows, otherwise it's not considered a bedroom.

Does anyone happen to have any photos of the interior of Wada or know where we could find some? I've looked on the housing website and I can only see two small thumbnails. danka

I'd hate to be in a room with no window if a fire occurs

The rooms do have windows

*Sarcasm .

joehanus, the rooms look like the ones in the photos here: Living at Cal - Unit 2 - Wada Hall , but on the bedroom shot just replace the white walls with concrete (and imagine the ceiling being concrete as well).

The kitchen is behind the girl in the bottom picture. The living room, dining area, and kitchen are contained in one room called the "common area," which is what is depicted in the bottom image. Typically, there will be a bedroom on each side of the common area, so that the apartment is structured with a bedroom on the left, and bedroom on the right, and the common area in the middle.

By the way, although my apartment looks like crap, I've seen some some people make theirs look very homey with a few decorations. The ugly walls can be salvaged!

Some cool posters could make a good difference, BUT some bad ones can be a huge eyesore (try bringing over new people to a room with Pok

Oh god, I want to bring Pokemon posters ironically, now; but, not in the usual openly-mocking way, more of no-one-knows-I'm-being-ironic-but-me sort of way.

Hey EKtaylor, guess what song I'm singing right now?!

"I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was..."

Hahaha, I think I know what you mean.

sooo I just checked a suite @ wada yesterday and I have to say they're pretty nice overall. definitely an environment thats more conducive to studying.

you only get cell phone reception if you're near a window though D:
