Charms

"little dez here -- uhuhh -- when mom goes to work i come and play with my two favorite players in the nba. we play basketball, we play ping-pong, we cook some food; they're kobe and lebron. they are my two favorite guys, all the kids in the school yard idolize. they got a pool out back, i'll take a dip. they got a closet full of shoes but none of them fit ... "

anyway. CHARMS is starting up in a few minutes. i'm pumped but still a little nervous about my roommate. i mean, a few people are really chilled like "oh i don't care who it is," but like, this person is with you for the entire year. you feeling me?

Absolutely- I know what you mean. I hate to admit that I’ll be aggressively investigating potential roommates throughout the next month, but, unfortunately enough, I will be.

lol i have no idea what im supposed to look for. kinda wanna just let them match me up, imo everyone has issues that turn up soon or later

i kinda struggled writing the initial “hey, you look interesting” message, but i came up with something ok i think. I just don’t know what else to talk about at first to see if this person is the right roommate or not.

I feel slightly weird messaging someone when it just opened up, haha…which is probably dumb, but I don’t want to seem too eager. I also think I’m searching using bad criteria.

lol. yea. i still don’t know what to write – like, “hey, you seem pretty cool … maybe you should think about living with me for a year?”

haha. whatever. i’m getting like only 20 people on mine, even if i use completely different search criteria, which is interesting. i think maybe they already picked our dorms and floors? whatever. it’s still awkward breaking the ice. haha.

i just got my first message from someone. he put it down pretty well. haha. mcgee – you don’t happen to play halo?

no i don’t play halo. sorry to disappoint.

haha. it’s all good – apparently the guy who messaged me plays it and his timing coincided with yours.

but i think i’ve set enough slightly awkward messages for the day. lol. waiting to see what happens next.

ya i messaged about 15 people. that’s gonna be my “strategy” i guess you could call it. from there get it down to about 4-5 in a week or so. and take my time from there. i’m fairly certain you can request more than one roommate so i’ll probably decide on about 2 or 3 and request them.

i’m actually wondering if any one of us gets the three-person room. that could possibly be very epic.

do you want the three person room? i’m not sure if i really would.

anyone have any ideas of questions you should ask people after you’ve started talking to them? it’s seems so hard to tell if this is the right person for you to room with for the next year.

exactly my point. just because someone is similar to me doesn’t mean I’ll get along with him. For ex, i’m a pre-med but i’d hate to room with another pre-med;(

and i’m SFS and i’m basically axing all SFS-ers because I don’t want to only talk about IR all day long.

i just thought about that, and that is actually a good point. at first i was looking for another pre-med so we could study together, but then i realized i’m probably going to be sick of pre-med after a while, haha.

what dorm you guys looking to tap into? i’m hoping for vcw, but whatever.

new south.

i was thinking new south but, i don’t know. i wouldn’t mind partying every night. BUT, darnall. oh lord. i mean, a lot of people say it’s not that bad or far away, but i don’t know. it just would be really weak.

i actually wouldn’t mind any of the dorms though. i’m a fairly social person so of course I want new south, but if I get put in darnall, i know i’ll end up with a really close group of friends because of its location. i really don’t care how far away it is. walking is good for you and if you hate it, get a bike. the one i really dislike the most is harbin because you can’t unbunk your beds, but even then the cluster system seems cool.

good thoughts. no one’s saying walking isn’t bad – but in -5 degree weather in the midst of a snow storm when you have to make it to class in healey (considering classes aren’t cancelled that day), life would be easier getting there from vcw or new south; along with the fact that you stand a far lesser chance of being late to class and a far lesser chance of injury (the more you walk on snow, the more places you may slip and fall). lol.

but yea, i understand. i didn’t know you can’t unbunk your beds in harbin. which would kinda suck. but whatever. we’ll see what happens. find a good roommate yet?

actually i’ve found about 4 people i seem to get along with pretty well and have exchanged quite a few messages back and forth. i’m probably going to talk with them for another week or so, and then try to get this charms thing over with pretty quickly. i don’t want it to be a continuous ongoing thing. what about you? find anyone yet?
