Cheating Me Out Of Leadership...

hey guys i got a story to tell
Today (10/24/2005) i ran for president of CSF (California Scholarship Federation). My opponents were two other girls. One girl had negligibile 1 or 2 votes, the other girl had 12 votes and I had 13 votes....

They called for a recount and the girl with 12 votes now got 13 votes, and I got 12 votes. They annoucned her President Of CSF...

I consider this cheating because I initially won. I also took note that over 80% of the club is Asian and the entire cabinet selected was Asian (Chinese/Vietnamese/Japanese/Watever) and I am a Sikh. This cheating has got me really mad and I am going to report it as cheating and racial discrimination and report it to the district to either give me the position or abolish this club from our school because it promotes racism...

i appreciate any input...how should i handle this situation?
do u guuys agree with me that its cheating that she gets a recount and wins by one vote when I initially won by one vote?

i am so depressed and miserable and angry...please i appreciate any counseling advice this may ruin chances at getting into college....

recounts suck and so does AL Gore...tell on him er...the girls hehehe

school elections and whatever....popularity contests..bah humbug

wow ok i get what you guys are saying but that doesnt realy help

i want to make this case bigger (if i can win it it would make interesting essay topic...) but does somebody agree with me that its cheating....

i want my president position..and i want to turn this anguish and pain into power for an essay topic and a presidential spot...

thanks for responses

You want this as an interesting essay topic?

That just takes away your credibility. Yeah, I understand you want it for college and it will look good, but you better not be telling anyone else this.

Report it and see what happens.

Also, I don't think there is a majority of Sikhs in any school, really.

something similar happened at my school. the rightful winner of the vp position ended up getting some other position (historian/parliantarian).

she brought up her case to the teacher advisor, but the teacher sided with the current vp (aka the loser).

BALIstik916:

Was the girl who got more votes Asian?

yes she was flopsy
she was asian this is the point im making...this aint no popularity contest....

waht should i do...

talk to the principle ONLY and then threaten to get a lawyer and sue....of course only if you are willing to do that

why was there a recount and how did she win the second time around

I wouldn't go overboard. I'd suggest doing some "lowkey". I know this goes against common sense, but I feel it takes away your credibility to try to turn it into this whole, big, messy deal. I mean, if it has to be that way, then so be it, but you need to make a good case for yourself with the people who really matter. And can this be proved? Without proof, nothing is going to happen.

ok, honestly, these are the people writing your letters of recommendation. do you really want them to think that you are a sore loser? maybe you could bring it up, privately and in confidence, that you were wondering what the real deal was with the election. it doesn't do any good to threaten suing. that just puts a bad taste in their mouths

oh no i am not at the phase of suing yet
my mom emailed the principal and teacher in charge of the club
there was a recount because i was up by one and it was "too close"...

i believe even by one vote is a WIN.....
im definitely meeting the principal in confidence to discuss the matter
what is "lowkey"?

however if they fail to meet my demands if i was right then i will consider using the power of law...

as for essays...the principal and this teacher aint writing my essays.
i have good connections with other AP teachers who can give me good recs.

They aren't the people that write your essays.

If it's "too close" then a recount is perfectly normal in my opinion. Do you have any proof that they cheated? I mean seriously, you sound like someone that's just trying to make something big happen so you can right about it in an essay and have it mentioned in recs. But I think you're tackling this situation the wrong way.

Pardon me if I seemed judgemental.

wow, I would be really mad, even if i didn't want the position badly, i'd still fight it because it's incredible unfair. i mean, if the votes were like 546 to 547, then maybe the one-vote difference would matter. but 12 to 13? and the other girl ended up winning by one vote, just as you did the first time!! I think you definately need to fight this. If what you wrote is all there is to the situtation, it wans't fair. I don't know how accessible your principal is, but try to meet with him and say your parents would also like to speak with him regarding the matter. In my school, the only way they take students seriously is if you bring your parents into the picture... good luck!

oh yea br i am definitely bringing my mom into this she has already emailed a very "agressive" email to the principal....

its ok tami, i thinnk u may have misunderstood. writing about this in my essays is not why i am fighting this...its more for principles

I WILL NOT LET RACISM, SEGREGATION, AND CHEATING DEFEAT ME

i am gonna get that position back
I HAD 13, SHE HAD 12
RECOUNT
SHE HAD MORE THAN ME (I dont know the exact number)
however I HAD MORE INITIALLY

THESE ARE THE FACTS

um...im just wondering but could it be possible those initial numbers you got were wrong...i dunno...lets say someone miscounted the votes and all along it was the other girl who had 13 to 12 on you all the time...and they didn't notice the mistake until they recounted...then technically you were never the winner cuz she always had the majority of votes and just reported it wrong on accident...i dunno if this is possible but its a thought...

I agree with gumba. The ballots simply could have been miscounted. The election was very close, and it's easy to miscount. I think that your mom and you will look very bad fighting the election . You have no proof that your were cheated out of the position. If you write about it in your essay, you'll simply seem like a malcontent.

Your not having that leadership position will NOT wreck your chances of getting into college.

If you want to strengthen your college admissions chances, find a way to have a positive impact in an organization and to take leadership of a project, a fundraiser, etc. Simply holding a leadership position isn't what impresses colleges. What one accomplishes is what's important.

You could have a wonderful college essay if you manage to take on a project in the CSF and do wonderfully with it despite your disappointment at not being president.

I agree with Northstarmom. This is not the kind of issue you should make a big deal about because you have no way of knowing what really happened. Maybe the first count was wrong, and the second time was right. I also think this is NOT the kind of thing your mom should get involved with ( my son would die if I were to complain about something he "should" have received and didn't.) It really does look like you care too much about the wrong things.
There are many opportunities to make a difference in high school - and outside of school. I'm sure you can find something that will be worthy of your energy.

How in the heck can they miscount 12 or 13 ballots??? Realizing that is was close, an immediate recount would take like 10 seconds. It takes cashiers longer to count out change. Also, who counted? Was it someone in the group who has some interest in the outcome, or an impartial school official? I'm not trying to fuel the fire, but (1) I don't believe they could have miscounted so few ballots and (2) once the announcement that you were elected was made, it should have been a done deal. Are the actual ballots still available to you to see? That would answer the question once and for all.
