Cheerleading in High School

Ok, so I'm going into 9th grade and I'm think of trying out for my school's cheerleading squad. I'm just worried... And I must ask do the cheerleaders at your school get labeled? Are the jumps and stunts to hard?

I go to a well regarded high school in the Bay Area, Cali. and while we have cheerleaders, we're fairly apathetic towards them. Sure, they perform and do cheerleader things, but they're treated the same as anyone else.

Good. I was just going to do it because I thought it would be fun, but some of the other girls trying out are rather, erm, not so bright nor nice. Not to say all are like this, but this has been a concern.

It depends on the school.

Our squad is not particularly respected. First off, the administration does not let them do the exciting tricks (throwing people in the air and the like) and their dancing skills leave much to be desired. A lot of the cheerleaders are very sweet, friendly people, but there's only two or three who are commonly thought of as bright.

But in general, it's not like the teen movies. Cheerleaders don't get typecast as hot, slutty airheads. If you're a nice person, people will judge you on your own merits. You might have to overcome a momentary "She's a WHAT?" sort of response, but I'm sure you'd be fine.

From the two schools I've been in, cheerleading is a respectable activity just like any other activities you consider normal or respectable. It is definitely not what you think after seeing all those teen chick-flick movies.

cheerleading at my school is not associated with popularity.
if you know how to do stunts you can do them, but its not a requirement at my school.
so basically, there is not a label at my school nor are the stunts hard/required

google 'mckinney north cheerleaders' and read the article from msnbc.

avoid acting like them, and you're golden.

hahaha...i live REALLY close to mckinney. i never knew about it until the news went national.

"I go to a well regarded high school in the Bay Area, Cali. and while we have cheerleaders, we're fairly apathetic towards them. Sure, they perform and do cheerleader things, but they're treated the same as anyone else."

wow, cbf88, do you go to my school??

anyways. i'm a cheerleader and i have 4.0 UW. as far as jumps and stunts, if you're in good shape you'll be fine. you can never be too strong though, do your pushups!!

Ok. Well I'm doing honors classes and I guess it's not that big of a deal...

Cheerleaders at my school really don't have labels. In fact, many of my friends are on JV.

But they are sooo bad. At least varsity is. Cringe-inducing, they are.

Cringe inducing? Are they mean? Some of them, atleast?

snoopy means that the cheerleaders are so bad at cheerleading that ppl cringe when they watch them...at least that's how i took it.

Not mean. I mean, their "performances". They are horrible at cheerleading. They make me want to cringe from the badness.

Sure, to someone whose never seen cheerleaders before, they might okay. But to anyone with an ounce of common sense, they are just baad. JV is okay, but varsity is...

Why is Varsity worse than JV, snoopyiscool?

my school is pretty much against the fad these days, people see cheerleaders more as subjects to joke and sneer at than anything else, keep in mind this is a small town small, not those magnet education oriented schools ... and the pep rally was a joke. anyway this is mostly likely a total exception. as for injuries, cheerleaders suffer the more injuries than other girl sports

(During a football game)
Football Team #1: Man, this is getting boring.
Football Team #2: Yeah, we need to find something else to do.
(Both teams look around. Cheerleaders stop cheering and look at the football players.)
Both Teams: Cheerleaders! **GET 'EM
