I hate cheerleading- not competitive cheerleading, which is an actual sport that takes skill, but the kind that goes on in schools.

The whole premise if it is that boys will play the game (do the part people care about) and girls will look pretty and cheer them on. I hate how the school takes the activity seriously- even the outfits the cheerleaders wear at my school don't even try to fake the idea that "it's just easier to move in during a routine" (tight long sleeved shirt, tight skirt).

So. How is cheerleading at your school? How is it viewed? Is it considered a sport?

LOL at my school, the cheerleaders are basically losers. well, not losers. i’m friends with ONE of the members, and she’s really nice, isn’t a slut, and is the opposite of the stereotype. but nobody really likes them as a team…

Cheerleading is generally a “popular” and “pretty” girl sport here(except that no one thinks of it as a sport…). I’d say my school doesn’t really take it too seriously.

I do think that it is a little more than just looking pretty and waving pom-pom, at my school at least. They do routines and all that can be challenging.

I’m pretty sure that a lot of people at my school think our cheerleaders are ratchet lol. I’ve seen the cheerleaders from other schools and they are so much better.

@CE - Same, expect it’s way too overrated at my school. Personally, I think high school cheerleading is just dumb and shouldn’t be considered a sport (not saying all cheerleading, just the kind that goes on in school - I respect the girls who can actually flip in the air and carry out difficult routines). We had a pep rally today and literally their entire routine was them waving their hands around in tight uniforms. And our team is 2nd in the nation. It’s ridiculous.

Personally I think cheerleading is one of the silliest activities. The cheers they do are silly, the whole concept is silly. The things they get together at pep rallies and stuff like that are pretty cool, but I think that’s almost more like gymnastics than cheerleading.

At my school, we have a “boms” squad, where the guys dress up as poms/cheerleaders and put on a few performances, and a powderpuff girls team, which is the opposite for football. And the cheerleaders/poms don’t just cheer the boys on…they occasionally put on exclusive performances for pep rallies and whatnot.

^ what exactly IS Powderpuff? The seniors and juniors at my school have been organizing this thing for the last few weeks, but I have no idea what it is.

There are three girls on the cheerleading team that are in good academic standing with multiple AP classes, strong SAT scores, etc. The rest of them aren’t really the “school” type. The cheerleaders at my school are really gassed up for no reason, because no one really respects them, but they walk down the hall like God has given them as a gift to the human race or something, it boggles my mind.

everyone makes fun of the cheerleaders and no one takes them seriously. there’s like 9 of them and they’re all incredibly annoying and act like idiots so guys will like them.
they don’t do stunts, their jumps are horrid, they can’t tumble, and they talk about cheering in college? lol no. they just aren’t good… at all.
