hi, i was wondering if johnson has quizzes during her sections?

i want to take her in the fall (well shes the only chem6c prof. then), but currently the only times i can take her are already waitlisted.

only 4pm w isnt, but that conflicts with the lecture of another class that only has one lecture time.
so i figured i could enroll in the chem6c 4pm w DI and attend another one (since from experience only a portion of the class attends DI if there arent quizzes).

but i cant find any info on whether she does DI quizzes or not..

oh and im not sure if i should waitlist for the DI time i can make since they already increased it from 18 to 22 to 30 (now) and still has around 3-5 people waitlisted.

In class she has clicker points that are basically points that you get for attending lecture. These points count towards your grade and are important to get. So pretty much you have to attend lecture (but you should be anyways since college chem is difficult). If you manage to get 30 clicker points, then you’ll be allowed to drop a quiz (as long as you took all of them).

There are 4 quizzes in her class and all of them are taken during discussion. The TAs make the quizzes so they are much easier than the exams that she makes. In discussion, there are also problem sets that will be done on random days that account for a big part of your grade (so attendance to discussion is very important). However, I wouldn’t worry too much about these. They aren’t pop quizzes like ^ said. Its just problems that are assigned out of the book and you can look at your book and notes to solve them. You’re also encouraged to work with the other students in your discussion on these to better understand the material.

Finally, you have 2 midterms in the quarter and 1 final. These are relatively difficult exams, but the curve generally tends to be pretty good for her class so everything balances out really. I dont know if she still does this, but when I took her in the 09-10 year, she allowed you to drop 1 midterm. I forget what the requirement is to drop a midterm.

Thats just about it. I’m sure the others on here will fill in any gaps in info that I have.

I recommend taking her if at all possible. You wont regret it

Oh right, i dont think it was the quizzes that were “pop”. I remember she gave us a class schedule and it told us the specific dates when there would bw quizzes

It was the problem sets that were “pop”. However, i remember i always went to discussion cause the problem sets were a decent part of your grade

She is generally regarded as the best general chemistry teacher at UCSD, so find a way to take her. Her drop-a-midterm policy saved me so many times… (whereas other chem prof don’t drop a midterm, so if you screw up on one, it’ll hurt.)

Well either way, it’s definately a must to go to discussion section.

Thanks to the second replier for the correction.
