Chem1A/3A = general chemistry in the eyes of Dental schools?

On the Career Center site, Berkeley says the following:

[quote]

Most students at Cal take Chem 1A, 3A/3AL, 3B/3BL and MCB 102 or a combination of MCB 100A and MCB 100B and *classify 1A / 3A/3AL as General Chemistry and 3B / 3BL /MCB 102 (or MCB 100A and MCB 100B) as Organic Chemistry. *

Can I do the same if I'm applying to dental school? That is, classify 1A/3A/3AL as General Chemistry? I really don't want to take Chem1B to satisfy the 1 year of Gen Chem requirement.

thanks a lot!

Yes sir. 1a, 3a 3al, 3b/bl, mcb 102. Route for many prehealths/med

Actually MCB 102 is not a pre-req, but it is suggested and I guess Chem 1B is only required if planning on attending Dental School at UCLA.

@calbear2012: i’ve read that link before and i don’t understand it.

does “can be fulfilled” mean this is only one way to do it? and we could still do Chem1A/3A as general chem and Chem 3B/MCB as Orgo?

or does it mean we have to take Chem1B in order to apply?

The ‘can be fulfilled’ clause is followed by an ‘either or’ proposition.

You have two choices-- 1A/1B and 4A/4B. UCLA Dental may make exceptions on an individual basis, but that depends entirely on each application.

so i definitely have to take 1B/1BL?

it looks like it is your safest option. Keep in mind, it is only offered in Spring and Summer.
