chemistry at rutgers

There's a chance I will be at the Rutgers - NB area to do research over this summer and I'd like to be able to take some summer classes here to fill out some pre-med requirements so I could graduate in four years. I would like to take Chem over the summer - does anyone have any information about this (regarding professors, curves, class size etc)?

I can’t really help you much as I am not a current student but it has been mentioned on these forums that the summer class may be easier than taking it during the school year. You can check the professor ratings site if you have specific names in mind. You can also try posting your question on one of the Rutgers FB pages. (for ex, ‘Accepted Rutgers class of 2016’ etc).

Judging from my son’s experience at Rutgers, professors change frequently, and sometimes at the last minute. Also, there will probably be only a few classes offered during the summer (as opposed to during the year) so your choice of professors will be more limited.

Depending on which chemistry you’re taking, usually there isn’t a curve on the exams. However, on the final, if you do better on the section of it than you did on your other exams, it can replace the grade.

e.g. I get a 50 on the first exam. On the final, the section of the first exam I get an 80. This replaces my grade.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If you really want to go balls out, get a book like Shaum’s or Gen Chem as a 2nd language.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot. Off sequence classes are most likely easier than during the semester.
