<p>Representatives from seven countries gathered to honor Dr. Barry Boehm of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Professor Mingshu Li, of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, chaired the event and read the official announcement of the State Council formally awarding an honorary doctorate degree to Professor Boehm.</p>
<p>Dr. Boehm founded the USC Center for Systems and Software Engineering. He is the TRW Professor of Software Engineering. The distinguished professor has received many other honors and awards in his career.</p>
<p>Present at the event were National Academy of Engineering member, Dr. Neil Siegel and Dr. Shang-HuaTeng, Chair of the USC Viterbi Department of Computer Science. Other speakers came from India, Japan and Denmark.</p>

<p>Dr. Boehm is considered one of the most well known scientists in the field of software management and requirements determination. Before joining the SC faculty he served as director of the DARPA Information Science and Technology Office and director of the DDR&E Information Science and Technology Office.</p>
<p>His contributions to the field include the Constructive Cost Model, the Spiral Model of the software process and the Theory W approach to software management. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Association of Computer Machinery, Fellow of the AIAA, Fellow the the INCOSE and a Fellow of the IEEE.</p>
<p>Dr. Boehm was chair of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, chair of the Information Technology Panel and member of the Governing Board of the IEEE Computer Society.
He has received the AAIA Information Systems Award, the JD. Warnier Prize and the ASQC LIfetime Achievement Award.</p>
<p>He has written eight texts and authored 412 publications with 8,068 citations.</p>
<p>Dr. Teng, chair of the CS Dept. at SC, remarked, “I was so proud to be his colleague and happy we have such a pioneering scientist in our department.”</p>
