CHM151 Organic Chm?

I was thinking about enrolling in Organic 1st semester since I have credit for General Chemistry + labs from AP and college work but the section for 1st yr students is already full ---> how can they fill up so many spaces so fast in that class? Would I be able to enroll in some other open section?

No one has enrolled for the freshman Orgo yet. It's the one with 75 people and taught by Professor Widenhoefer.

why is the freshman class (section 3) full on ACES?

Its not. It says 0/75 on my ACES. Its section number is 003 but it is the first orgo class listed.

Check it out here (this is just a way to view classes without logging onto ACES):

oh ok cool, there must have been a glitch in the system b4 cuz there were no spaces open a few days ago when I checked it.

duke25, r u planning on enrolling in orgo as well. Im debating whether or not I should do it since the last time I took chem was in 11th grade, was thinking about taking CHM23 advanced general chm as a refresher course. what do u think?

yeah, hopefully the ACES thing magically opens up spots for PPS 55 too

I'm going to be a sophomore. I took orgo last year. Got to run now, but if you have any questions about it I'll be happy to answer them soon.

leejwwc- there is very little that you need to know from general chemistry that you need to know for orgo. Basically understand electronegativity really really well, brush up on acids and bases, and know what an equilibrium constant is.
Here's the biggest difference between Chem 23L and Chem 151L. Advanced General Chem starts at 830 in the morning! It takes a good 15 to 20 minutes to catch a bus from East and get to the Gross Chem building (Science Drive busses are nice but taking an East-West and walking is cool as well). So you'll be waking up early, which, as you become more adapt to college life, is not fun. The 1020 Orgo class is still early but much better than an 830 class.
Also, it is good to get Orgo out of the way as a freshman. You won't have to take orgo along with some other really tough classes when you're a sophomore or later. The freshman class also has a nice curve. I thought for sure that I was getting in the C range but I ended up with a grade in the B range. Prof. Widenhoefer's tests are kinda tough though. Overall take Orgo if you're up for it and ready to work right away. Looking back it was a good choice.

Yeah I was thinking 8:30 was very early since its on the other side of campus! Thanks for all the info - I've decided that its prob better to take 23 first semester then 151 second semester. I've forgotten a lot of the details of the stuff I've learned (my AP Chem teacher was horrible, I had to learn most of it myself), plus I'm doing FOCUS so I think its better to review/learn more gen chm first considering that I might major in chem. Thanks again.

Only problem with that is that 151 isnt given in the spring. It is kind of a tough elective to take with a FOCUS though. Nothing wrong with taking it soph year, physical chem junior year, and analytical and inorganic chem senior year if you're going for a chem major.

oh that sucks, well I have to think about it then, thanks for the update
