eh. i really don’t know. archery? LOL
i sort of want to try volleyball, knowing that everyone in my family has played, but i’m not athletic so…

AHH! I friggin love volleyball!! You should deff try it! It’s really fun xD! I’m somewhat athletic (if you count mathletes!). I’m definitely playing volleyball next year! What about in the winter? I’m thinking ice hockey.

winter is archery :P

didnt know lol, seriously dude try volleyball though, it’s awesome

I thought Volleyball was a spring sport? haha

@tarsier,

Yup, Boys Volleyball is a spring sport.

@swamped,

What a long response. Been procrastinating a little? Better start working- midterms are tomorrow! ;)

oh my…I forgot midterms were tomorrow. Can’t wait to breath again next week without all the work!

Midterms? How are those? Is it that you have an exam for each subject you take for the entire week?
My current school doesn’t really have any tests, so I can’t image how stressful it must be

Not being rude, but if you have never even attempted to ice skate, it will be impossible to make any hockey team at choate since ice hockey is one of the most competitive prep school sports.

Sent from my MB511 using CC App

I’m a decent ice skater so I’m not so worried, but that’s not entirely true. They have JV and 3rds

@BronxKid,

Everblades is right, Choate has one of the most competitive ice hockey programs among prep schools. There was no 3rds team this year, and the likelihood of there being one next year is not very high either. Two years ago, there was even a PG on the JV team, so don’t feel as if just because you skate, you’ll be able to play ice hockey here. Of course I’m not deterring you from doing it, if you feel as if you’re a strong enough ice hockey player, then by all means do go for it!

@tarsier,

Midterms are not tests, they’re just an update of grades in each class during the middle of each term. These are generally stressful because there’s no really reliable day-to-day grading system that is updated for students to see and as such, you really don’t know your exact grade in each class until this midpoint.

We do, however, have final exams at the end of each term (Fall, Winter, Spring), and those do actually induce a lot of stress. The number of finals that you have each term depends on your classes.

So if you’ve never played before, there’s no chance of playing ice hockey at all?

@Bronx Kid
There is probably no chance. It is extremely competitive.

also, ive been playing travel and aaa hockey all my life at a high level, ive playing for some top selects teams, and next year when i go to prepschool, i will only be able to play at the JV level. thirds is also filled by kids who have played A or AA hockey before.

Looks like I’ll have to find a new winter sport :(

I think I’ll seize this opportunity to continue my experience in Theater. Isn’t the major theater production in the winter term?

There’s one major theater production each term. Fall and winter are plays, and the production in the spring is a musical. During the spring, there is also a Student Playwriting Festival where you can choose to participate in a student-written play. If you’re interested in film, or acting on film, there’s a FilmFest in the spring as well.

I noticed some schools are doing their course selections for nxt yr. Any idea when Choate starts that process?

Choate already started. Your son should have received an email from the director of studies with a link to a course selection survey. They then send something in after.

For current Choate students, we have already selected our classes for next year which are now being approved by our deans and head of departments. If I remember correctly from last summer (summer before I entered Choate) I filled out my course selection sheet around mid-May. If you have any questions about specific classes that you would like to take, email the head of department for that subject or the registrars office. They are there during normal business hours and are always willing to help you set up your schedule over the phone!
