Juniors can be prefects?

No, not officially, but in dorms with mixed grades, juniors sometimes act as unofficial prefects. I am seriously considering prefecting for my senior year though!

Oh, and BronxKid, you need to be an invited student athlete to come to preseason, meaning you’d have to first contact the coach(es). In the position you’re in, I wouldn’t suggest coming to preseason because you’re relatively new to both sports. Preseason is typically reserved for Varsity athletes.

As swamped said, this year I lived in a mixed dorm and the juniors did really seem like stand in prefects for most of the year. That is one of the nice things about mixed dorms because you get different age levels surrounding you who can relate to you in different ways when you need their support.

Is it wise for a freshmen to take six courses?
The sixth course is French. I’m taking Spanish, but only to improve it a bit more (using the correct accents in my writing), but I’m a native speaker, so it shouldn’t be so hard, would it? I can speak, read, and write Spanish, btw

It would be wiser to save the 6th course for requirement courses like World Religions, Contemporary Issues, or art. Not a lot of people take more than one language course, and taking six courses for all three terms is generally not recommended because six academic courses is a lot of work.

Yeah most of the people I know take World Religions and Contemporary Issues/Global Sciences to fill the religion and issues requirements. That way, they can choose to take courses they want to in their junior/senior year without worrying about what requirements they need to fit into their schedules to graduate.

what sports do you recommend to incoming students who aren’t athletic at all. like… not athletic what-so-ever.

I think everyone is athletic, you just have to find the sport that fits you the best! For me, it’s volleyball and basketball :)

@brandon

Your best bet would be to try out for any thirds team or an intramural sport. In the intramural sports programs, they cannot cut you based on ability, so it is really a good alternative for those who are not athletic. There are intramural sports like hiking, rock climbing, fall running, etc. which are great for people who want to be active but who are not necessarily athletic. Also, there is something called Fitness and Conditioning which is only 3 times a week for 1.5 hours in the gym. Basically you have free use of all the equipment in the gym and can make up your own work out routines. This is the most popular intramural though, so if you would like to be in it, make sure to sign up for it on your course selections sheet. Don’t wait until the beginning of the year to try to get a spot!

Random question-

Does Choate have alot (or any) skiing trips? Someone told me they did and I wanted to confirm it :D

There is one over winter long weekend.

ooooh, do they have lessons during the ski trip for newbies?
also, is there an additional charge?

I believe it is just a ski trip where you get a day pass and ski with friends. I don’t think lessons are available. You’d have to ask. And yes, I think this year it was maybe $100 or a bit more to go

Where’d you go skiing? Somewhere within New England I guess?
I can’t wait to go on the Six Flags trip!!

i’m not sure because i didn’t go but its about 3 hours away. we have a 6 flags trip? haha i didn’t even know that…

The ski trips typically go up to New Hampshire during the winter. We actually have a couple Six Flags trips, I think one in fall and one in spring. The spring one was last week, yellow.
