CHOICES accepted student day

Has anyone attended a CHOICES accepted student day at JMU, either this year, or last?

I’m just wondering about the logistics of it all. The schedule was posted today and it seems pretty free flowing. Both my wife and I are alumns, so familiarity with campus isn’t an issue. Our concern is more with timing because my wife and son will be there Monday, but need to get to the airport for a flight Monday evening.

Check in is at the Convo, but where are the information sessions being held? Are they located in buildings across the campus?

There’s no time or designation for lunch. Is it a fend for yourself situation in between info sessions/tours, etc.?

What did you like about it? What didn’t you like about it?

My daughter & I went in Feb. I’m also am alumni so we already knew a lot about JMU. Everyone starts out at the Convo then multiple sessions are held all over campus. The sessions are about 45 min long & give info about specific departments/majors. Busses are constantly running to get people around. Lunch is on your own. They had regular campus tours & 1 dorm in each area(village, bluestone etc) was open. Overall, we liked it. My daughter was undecided on schools ,and that day put JMU higher on her list. The 1 negative was that there was so many choices, we didn’t get to do all the things we wanted to. The day went by really fast. We were done by 2:30-3.

@HHSsenior Could you tell me which sessions you attended and where they were held? Were they essentially large rooms with majors set up by table? My son wants to check out a few different majors so I’m looking to help him with logistics. Thanks.

We went to the sessions for Health professions, Study Abroad, & Honors college. They were in the Festival student center, Admissions building, & Hillcrest. I remember that the Business college session was held at the Convo center. The sessions were power point presentations with time for questions at the end. Some departments had open houses where you could go talk to people to get more info. All the students were given a free lunch voucher and the parents could buy a voucher if they wanted

@HHSsenior Thank you! BTW, my wife was an Athletic Trainer at JMU, and she’s currently an OT, if you have any questions.

My daughter wants to become an OT. The new Health & Behavioral science building at JMU looks really nice!
