Choosing a major on a freshmen application?

Hi everyone! I started to fill up an application but I got stuck when it asked me for a major. I want to do Pharmacy so of course the pre-pharmacy option looked ideal. But as a college freshman I'm planning to enroll in an accelerated program which means I will be majoring in Nutrition for a few years and then Pharmacy. So I'm not sure if I should select Nutrition or Pre-pharmacy? I'm afraid if I pick Nutrition they won't realize I'm interested in Pharmacy and if I pick Pre-pharmacy I won't be able to go for the accelerated path. Is the one I pick definitive or is it just a guideline for them? Thanks! Any feedback will help :)

Woot! More pharmacy candidates! ahem now back into professional conduct.

UF allows you to switch your majors as much as you like in freshmen and sophomore year. But in junior year, you actually declare your final major.

Now think about that a bit. The traditional Pre-pharmacy program lasts 2 years and the other Nutrition-Pharmacy combined program lasts 3 years. The accelerated path is the traditional prepharmacy program - 2 years. If you pick pre-pharmacy on your application, then you are on the accelerated path. But if you look at the Nutrition-Pharmacy program, you’ll notice 5-6 courses that don’t appear in the traditional program. Which leads me to the following suggestion:

Pick pre-pharmacy first and go through the first 2 years. Then you apply to pharmacy school. If you don’t get in, then you must do a 3rd year. But as I mentioned earlier, you must permanently declare a major in something. At this point, you may take the 5-6 courses you need for the combined Nutrition-Pharmacy program that wasn’t in the traditional program. Then you may apply again to pharmacy school because you finished the combined program. Note that this path will give you a BS in Nutrition after your 1st year in pharmacy school. Should you get denied again, you may finish out the regular Nutrition program and get a BS in Nutrition and apply again to pharmacy school.

Something to keep in mind: If you choose pre-pharmacy, you get 3 shots at pharmacy school. If you choose Nutrition-Pharmacy combined program, you get 2 shots at pharmacy school. If you choose the regular Nutrition program, you get 1 shot at pharmacy school.

Yay! Thanks so much, that was so informative and it clearly makes more sense. I have accrued almost all my prerequisites while in high school through AP classes. Except for organic chem. I do think I’ll do prepharmacy then for my freshman year but this will only take me up to one year. And if I find myself with an empty schedule after a few semesters I’ll start taking some nutrition classes. I’m actually hoping on being able to do the Nutrition in two years (and maybe finish it up while in Pharmacy school if accepted by year three). Not sure if it’s possible. But regardless your response has really helped me. Thank you!
