Okay, well at the risk of asking a stupid question, I'm having a dilemma about deciding on UPenn. I'm wondering if it would be irrational to make a decision without visiting the campus? I mean how am I supposed to know if i fit in there? so idk AHHHHHHHH can anyone from Penn tell me about themselves and whether or not they visited and if not, what led them to accept despite not having visited?

Are you unable to visit? As I recalled you were considering Penn and Swarthmore. It certainly would be easy to visit both in one go.

But I will say this, you will not get a sense of if you fit in there just by visiting for a few hours. You can get a sense of whether you like the way the campus feels, some preliminary impressions about the neighborhood/city, sit in on a class, or maybe get to chat with a few students. But you will not be able to tell what your class’s dynamic will be like, how you will like the way your classes fit together with your extracurricular life, or anything more long-term. Anytime you make a choice of what to do with your life, you’re making a bit of a leap of faith. Certainly if everybody knew exactly what a place would be like, far fewer people in the country would become disenchanted with their schools and want to transfer to another.

A lot of people will probably tell you their visit didn’t influence their opinion, or if it did, quite marginally. But some people will visit a school they were considering, and like the poster above mentioned, be completely turned off in a few hours. Definitely I think this is a big enough risk to warrant a visit to at least one of the schools. Visit the one you like more first if you’re stretched on time/money. That way if that visit is good you can go ahead and declare.
