Hello,

I was just curious if I have my BA in CIS would I be able to pursue a Master's in Computer Science?

Hello,

I was just curious if I have my BA in CIS would I be able to pursue a Master's in Computer Science?

What courses are you taking as part of your BA in CIS? If you list your in-major and other technical course requirements, we will be much better-equipped to comment on areas you might need to address.

In general, the best preparation for graduate study in X is undergraduate study in X. Different institutions vary in what X means, though.

Believe it or not, you really need 4 core CS courses to get into most CS graduate programs:

Algorithms

Data Structures

Organization of Programming Languages

Operating Systems

About a handful of schools may also ask for a computer architecture course but usually the above 4 is all you need (and of course the prereqs).

It does NOT matter if the CS degree is B.S. or B.A.

It is possible. Our Masters program in CS at IIT will take students who don’t have a B.S. in CS but they have them take an intensive CS “boot camp” sequence before getting into the graduate CS courses.
