City of Hope 2017 Summer Program

Anyone here apply?

I applied, and so did a few of my friends

Yeaaaaah I applied. Surprised this thread isn’t more popular considering the # of ppl who’ve applied in past years (SO PLZ POST HERE IF U DID BC I NEED SUPPORT). Also @ ppl who applied/have gotten accepted before, any idea how to increase chances of getting confirmed? I heard 2nd round is terribly selective and based on a first come first serve basis so any tips on getting a competitive edge?

yes, think mid April is when COH will send out emails…which other summer programs did you guys apply for?

we got accepted to the following summer:

RISE
Carleton
UC Irvine
Smith

waiting on Cornell

From what I understand, the second round is just emailing the mentors? so I guess have some emails ready to be sent out if we get accepted.

What did you guys send with your applications?
I sent in one rec, resume, and previous project abstracts, but I’m starting to feel like that wasn’t enough…

@dragonTD everything else I applied for was pretty high level (stuff like RSI) so I doubt I’m gonna get into anything. Prolly shouldve applied to a few more but if I can’t get a program I’m just gonna email some people and see if they’ll take me as a shadower/intern

@cakeboy1022 That’s actually more than me… I sent in 2 recs (one from my english teacher which was def not the best move, and another from a guy I interned for last year at a local hospital) + transcript and resume. I think your project abstracts were pretty valuable though.

Also, since a lot of people probably make it to the 2nd round, I kinda want to send some less generic emails so ppl will wanna accept and IDK how to do that since they don’t release the list of mentors so im not sure if pre-writing emails would be too helpful

@empirical In the program’s overview it says that the students work with researchers from the Irell & Manella
Graduate School of Biological Sciences. I think the best approach would be to find 2-3 professors who you’d be interested in working with and mention what about their research interests you in your email. And we get in then we get to send them out faster than everyone else.

Do you know like what amount of people make it to the 2nd round? I was looking at last year’s and it only mentioned 90/1350 students being accepted to the actual program. I thought that the 2nd round was supposed to be easier.

does anyone know when exactly results for first round come out? :o seems like 4/10-11 from previous threads

@crimsonbleeding2022 Either then or the week after.

@cakeboy1022 i was notified today!

@crimsonbleeding2022 did u get in?..I got my notice today…didn’t make it…they only took 70 candidates this year with over 1400 applicants…oh well

Also congrats! @rh0101 @japadorean

The email came from Stephanie Patterson.

Congrats to everyone who got in ! I think im doing this program as well and would love to room with someone.

@japadorean @rh101 @122344 jw but what were your stats? i got rejected so im wondering what were the caliber of applicants. CONGRATS THOUGH!!! You’re going to have the summer of your lives

I haven’t received any sort of email yet… How does the notification process work? Hopefully they’re just slowly pushing out acceptances and rejections.
