Hello! Is anyone to applying this program?
My friend told me that it is an incredible experience; the research and presentations are excellent. Of course, she liked its stipend, too.
I’m most likely going to apply!
Good luck! What are your stats? Did you start on your short response?
Sorry, forgot to tag @samsunguser
What about your stats @Kelvin82 ? And same to you! No I haven’t, but I really need to start soon! Are you applying anywhere else for research programs? Also, given the low acceptance rates and abundance of kids who have super brains also applying to literally EVERYWHERE I’m applying, I’m expecting rejections from each one and would genuinely be surprised if I got into some of the programs. However, I think we have to remember that there’s only a 0% chance of acceptance if you don’t apply. At least that’s what I tell myself to feel a better lol.
Stats:
sophomore
classes: Econ (1 sem only, took elective other sem), AP Bio, Chemistry, Accelerated Pre-Calc, Spanish 2, AP world history, lit/comp (don’t have honors at my school, taking all “gifted”)
UW GPA: 4.0

EC’s: (going to shoot myself in the foot for not having enough in the sciences)

-science olympiad, 9,10, little regional awards
-science national honor society, 10
-went to a couple programs through JHU CTY for neuroscience, etc. and through vanderbilt’s WAVU for thinking like a researcher (though that one was a while ago, i think i’m reaching too much lol)
-tennis team, 9,10, region awards
-math honor society, 10
A quick question: what other programs are you applying to? I am sure you will be accepted. I am applying to COSMOS. You see, my friend wanted to apply to this program, so she asked me to start a thread.
I’ll post my friend’s stats:

@Kelvin82 Hi! I’ve attended the program in the past and can say it was definitely a great experience. As for the application, all these stats that you’ve posted are not as important as you might think. When reading applications, they really focus on written responses. So as long as your GPA, scores, etc aren’t terrible (and yours aren’t), I wouldn’t worry too much about them. Instead, spend some time really fleshing out your responses and making sure that they are concise but informative. Especially try to convey why you are interested in conducting research. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
@cookielover , thank you so much for responding. Did you apply to any other research or summer programs?
@Kelvin82 I didn’t actually, although I contacted a couple professors at a local university about working in their labs.
@cookielover I have pretty good grades but last semester my calc and chem grades were both Bs =/ would it hurt me to submit a transcript?
@literatechild I shouldn’t hurt. I would still recommend submitting it.
Would recommendation letters help me greatly or hurt my chances if I don’t submit? I’ve already applied to some summer programs and feel bad asking the same teacher for more =/
@cookielover btw thank you so much for the help
@literatechild a rec letter certainly can’t hurt, so I would say definitely send one if you can. Don’t feel bad about asking a teacher for multiple recs. If the teacher has written letters for you in the past, he/she already has the material to include in this rec, if not a letter itself, so it shouldn’t be too much trouble. (I always ask the same teachers for multiple recs, and they always comment on how the subsequent letters are the easiest because they’re mostly written already)
Does anyone know when the result will roughly come out if I sent it two weeks ago…? I got 2 recs, transcript, and 2260 SAT score report as pdf files

@jhgong I don’t think they do rolling admissions - in previous years it seems as though everyone found out if they made Round 2 in mid-April?
When it asks to list 2-3 laboratories of preference, are we just supposed to choose a few off the website?
