@rainshadow56 yes
“Positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis until we have reached the total number of students we can support. The Academy accepted 68 students last year out of 1250 applicants.”
Can’t believe I didn’t notice that.
Looks like that’s it for me…this sucks. ~X(
I don’t think it’s always “first come, first serve” because some professors will ask you to come in and get interviewed or request your resume, so there is some selective factor.
yea dr. diamond said that I am among 40 candidates… so I kinda gave up now lol
I guess I will go to the UPCI Academy at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Center
for those who seemed who have gotten in, did you get any paperwork yet?
@peargirl
Yes I have received paperwork
@thesheep787
oh ok i see. I’m still waiting to see if i’d get paperwork…
@thesheep787
did you get the final contracts to sign or just confirmations?
didn’t make it…
for those who are still waiting: ask Kate Sleeth if you want to know for sure
@peargirl health clearance, orientation, etc
@HuangoBango don’t worry, you still have many more opportunities in life…
This is crazy It’s only been a week. @HuangoBango I don’t think I made it either…I’m emailing her to make sure.
Always next year I guess…
Whelp apparently I’m not in either. Next year then ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@runbuffet didn’t you receive the same email I did from the administrative assistant? I emailed her for clarification and she told me it meant he was accepting me and that she had emailed the coordinator already.
@naplover Yeah but I e-mailed the director, and she said that since my prospective mentor sent in a big list they had to narrow it down to one or two people. I guess it might be different depending on how many people the researcher you found sent in?
@runbuffet why would your prospective mentor do that if he knew he could only accept 1-2 people? Do you mind telling me the name of the professor?
@naplover I’m not sure, but the directors make the final selection. I re-read the original second round e-mail and it said on one line “this does not guarantee your ultimate placement in a research position” soo apparently that’s what it means.
Undergrad and long time lurker here.
After getting loads of rejections, I finally managed to find a PI to work this morning. While I don’t know if these spots are reserved for undergrads, I heard that from one of the directors on Tuesday that there are still 20 spots left at the academy . So if you’re an undergrad (and maybe a high school student), please be persistent and keep emailing PI’s! If I could find a mentor today, you guys could definitely do so too!
Good luck y’all! And I hope to see the accepted peeps at the City of Hope this summer~~
@UberOxideRadical congrats dude
maybe because I asked the director and she said she didn’t have anymore funding…
