I got screwed into thinking a researcher wanted me so I didn’t email anybody the first two days
Lesson learned the hard way
Starting to feel like this is a competition of who has the best internet and fastest typing skills
@Frinceton Yeah I got the exact same thing. I guess that’s good? o_o
Good luck guys!
@HuangoBango Exactly. I had hoped that they would review all the applicants before choosing instead of arbitrarily selecting the first email in their inbox.
I mean at least we tried.
Not much else we can really do at this point.
@runbuffet So wait, did you get that from a particular researcher? or his assistant or whatever? I’m not sure what it means. Yeah I guess it’s good…
@Frinceton Yep from his assistant like 4 hours ago.
@runbuffet congrats dude
@HuangoBango Thanks! Hope you hear back soon.
This is really nerve racking…
@HuangoBango Nothing yet? Keep trying! I would say with the amount of researchers on the attached list (there are 52), emailing around a dozen would be good. Any more than contacting 25% of the researchers might make it sound like spamming. The list seems pretty big. Only 70 will be selected, and mentors will have usually one or two students at most, which is annoying. Every rejection I got was because the lab was full and not because the mentor thought I wasn’t a good fit, and the one that accepted me was because I got lucky and found open room. I think these professors just don’t want to deal with interviewing 100+ kids so they choose out of the first few who have good sounding emails or even the first ones who contact them.
For the ones who have secured a position, what dates are you choosing? I’m doing the latest, June 15th to August 21st.
hey everyone! to those of you who are still looking, good luck! don’t give up hope because there are still open spots left! i just got super lucky and a researcher accepted me (also because i’m an undergrad with lab experience so i have a leg up), but just keep trying! and @Frinceton I’m doing the earliest one (May 18-July 24 + poster session) because my school’s on a semester system and I get out at the beginning of May
Thanks guys
Makes sense with how people are selected (I wouldn’t want to do 100+ interviews either)
Now it’s just the waiting game (the worst kind of game lol)
@Frinceton
I am doing June 15-August 21, although my school ends later than June 15…
Does anyone know what is the schedule, like what time you arrive and end?
@thesheep787 try emailing the directors
I received the same email as frinceton! I was confused what she meant too. I emailed her for clarification but she hasn’t responded yet.
This is all happening so fast…I hope we get some clarification soon, and that there are still open positions…congrats to those who made it, good luck to those like me who are still waiting for some news…
@rainshadow56 Yeah same here. The stress/anxiety is killing me
We still have until the end of April, right? To potentially find a mentor?
