City Transfer

I'm interested in transferring to somewhere in either probably NY or Cali (city).

*not looking at prestigious places due to the money factor. I would go in a heart beat to Columbia or NYU if I has had a chance of getting significant aid.

I know very little about the CUNY or SUNY systems so far, so any questions you can answer is appreciated.

1) Which of the CUNY or SUNY are known for the sciences; chemistry?
2) Do I have a shot of getting a significant scholarship from CUNY at all?

3)Do you guys have any recs for any other good colleges that I would have a shot at getting some moolah and that are good in the sciences?

College Record

GPA 3.9
Chem Major
some activities

H.S. Record

GPA: 3.83
Rank: top 3 % out of 7 hundred and something
AP: lots of APs 5 and 4. one or two 3s
ACT: 29 (low I know)
SATII: 740 math IIC, 680 bio
pretty impressive activities list actually.

if you look at smaller top LAC or places with high endowments, and you can prove financial need, most of them will meet or beat it (especially if you get schools competing to offer a better aid package).

Do you go to a 4-year institution?

yup i got to a 4 year small state liberal arts college in Missouri

i belong in the middle class bracket therefore, i'm among the students that do not meet for full aid just based on need but also don't have $40,000 to spend a year.

i'm thinking of the possibility of med school or definitely grad school and i would much rather take out loans for grad school.

bump....

i know there's people that know ny schools.

thanks

u do not want to be in ny unless its nyc.. lol

Truman State?

wow nice guess.

nobody has any advice on school is ny. well i'll figure this out myself.

peace

TS is a good school man. You dont like it there?

Check out cuny hunter, it has a decent chemistry program, and the out of state tuition is affordable.
But, I think that SUNY stony brook has a much more respected chemistry program that you should really look into. They have almost the same tuition. The only difference is that with SUNY stony brook, you're going to be in Long Island, and with Hunter, you're going to be in NYC.
Then again, it would be extremely hard and expensive to find a decent apartment and roommate in the city, because CUNYs don't have dorms, with the exception of queens college (I THINK) and hunter also has dorms but i think its only for their honor students. Stony brook has dorms available for everyone.

If you're thinking Chem over city, you could try Purdue; they give a fantastic scholarship. If you want city first, then SUNY is probably a good bet...the Boston colleges (BC and BU) give decent scholarships as well.
