I figured CMC deserved an ED thread so we can all compare our stats and results. I wish everyone the best of luck and hope they are accepted to CMC.

Our D is at CMC and loves it there. I remember how excited she was when she got her acceptance email! It sounds like you went about things the right way and they liked what they saw. Your hard work has payed off and you are in for a great 4 years.

3.36 UW/3.91 W
2130 SAT
5’s on 4 APs (World, NSL, CP, Micro), 4 on 1 AP (Macro)
great ECs
great recs
Essays were weaker than I would have liked, but good
rigorous courseload

I visited campus and had an overnight visit, tour, interview, information session, and sat in on a class. Flying out from DC, this was a good bit to do.

Pretty sad I got rejected, mostly for financial reasons. Just taking it in stride and moving on. Good luck to all acceptees- I really enjoyed my time there and get excited for 4 years of greatness.

[] Volunteer/Community service: Tutoring kids near my house in one of the poorest neighborhoods in America
[] Summer Activities: Duke University summer program and Economic Research plus volunteering and such
[] Essays: Everyone thinks they have great essays, but really I can say that mine conveyed who I was clearly and in a memorable way… but what more do you want in a college essay really?
[] Teacher Recommendation: I have two teachers that have known me fairly well and another teacher that I met when I was presenting a mathematical model for a Non for profit that would create their days of operations and other such business strategy
[] Counselor Rec: She really likes me a lot. I have done 10 drafts of my college essays… Really that isn’t an exaggeration.
[] Additional Rec: A minister in the inner city that I worked closely with to get some of the very talented kids to private high schools or just achieving something more.
[] Interview: It last two hours… She told me it was one of the better and memorable ones that she has had.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Ambition, motivation and follow through. That’s it.
[] Weaknesses: I don’t play an instrument, I don’t participate in plays/drama and I’m very polarized in my interests… I’m not a fan of anything outside of Hard Science or Social/Econ Humanities(I’m aware that covers a lot… but I’m not a fan of the classics or modern language or Psych and several other fields.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I’m a really motivated student who has a lot of potential even though my grades aren’t up there. Through my published work I really shine. Multiple published essays and my model for a non for profit probably helped. I’ve conducted research and I have a real passion for all of it.

[] Essays: (?) Well, I wrote my paper on Rock Hudson, the first actor/public figure to die of AIDS. It conveyed what I cared about very clearly, which I think complemented the rest of my application.
[] Teacher Recommendation:My first teacher also wrote a rec for both of the summer programs listed, so I assume she says good stuff about me. The other teacher rec was a wild card, but was for my best class.
[] Counselor Rec: My counselor and I click very well. We’ve had dinner in the city (NY) together. I have his cell phone number. I’ve even complained to him about relationship problems.
[] Additional Rec: I also had my counselor from a fellowship that I’ve been in for 7 years write me a rec. The fellowship is kind of prestigious and my counselor and I get along well.

[] Strengths: Strong Social Science/English grades and test scores
Mingling Ability (You’d be surprised)
Perseverance

[] Weaknesses: GPA
I’ve dropped out of many courses, which I guess goes against the perseverance I was talking about.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I couldn’t tell you. I think it was the fact that I made a lasting impression on the Admission Committee, from flying out to CMC to emailing admission officers frequently from June until November. I also wrote an award winning essay on the effects of the Resource Curse/Dutch Disease on the Caspian Sea Region (Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan), what they should do to combat the effects, and why they aren’t doing it.
[/ul]General Comments:

I’m not going to go over all the specifics.
Academically I basically stack up with everybody else posting here, but my ECs are my gems. The XC coach recruited me and I play in a band. A plethora of leadership roles as well. My essays were pretty good and my letters of rec were great, coincidentally one of them was a graduate of the Claremont grad school. I also visited and sat in on a class.

I’d really like to start talking with some other acceptees on facebook or via email or something. Sam.Pitcavage@gmail.com.

Hi Ya’ll,
Same as Sam Pitcavage, I’m pretty much on par with the rest of you guys academically. I row crew, go to a magnet school and love to draw.

I know there’s a facebook page that’s been made, but if ya’ll would like (we say ya’ll in Texas), I set up a group at chatterous.com (it’s just a website that hosts chat rooms) at [Chatterous | Claremont McKenna Class of 2015](http://www.chatterous.com/2015/). Since we’re all ED and definitely going to be at CMC next year, I think it’d be cool to hear a little about everyone else. Maybe we could all find a time to chat over winter break?

Yeah i saw that there is a fan page , but not one of the new, updated groups where you can have one large chatroom or whatever. I just made one, so lets all try n gather in one place. Cause after all, there aren’t too many of us, right?

It’s labeled, CMC Class of 2015! , so search that and join up.
