Trinity/Pratt?

Anyway…

Decision: Accepted

((In the meantime, has anyone heard back about the McKenna Achievement Awards? I didn’t see anything, but I figured if they full-out rejected me from it they’d mention it somewhere…))
edit: I found it - it’s in my inbox. All I can say is yay!!!

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): M 750 CR 750 W 740 (1500/2240)
[] ACT: 35 overall, 36 math/science, 35-33 for the rest
[] SAT II: Bio 780 USH 770 Math II 750
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.77 UW
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): probably 15% in terms of GPA, but I’d give myself top 1% for rigor of schedule
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): USH and both Econs - 5
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/a
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc BC, AP Euro History, AP Spanish Lit, English 12 (no AP English at my school) Int’l Human Rights, Creative Writing
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Finalist, nominated to apply for Presidential scholar award, Presidential Gold Award for Community service, etc.
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Head of current events club, 2 years, STAND, Improv group, lots of theatre/voice, various thirds/JV sports, science bowl, stock market club
[] Job/Work Experience: as I just turned 16 last fall, only oddjobs - babysitting, tutoring, working at the school bookstore… also unpaid internship with local politician
[] Volunteer/Community service: 600+ hours between tutoring (unpaid), volunteering as a camp counselor, girl scout activities, and working as a CCD teacher
[] Summer Activities: unpaid camp counselor, programs at Brown/Harvard (H for credit)
[] Essays: One about Raphael Lemkin, inventor of the word ‘genocide’, and his contributions to International Law. My common app was about teaching CCD - spreading free thought/tolerance instead of indoctrination
[] Teacher Recommendation: All 3 very good from what I know. I think it helps that one was from my econ teacher
[] Counselor Rec: Also very good from what I know
[] Additional Rec: N/a
[li] Interview: The worst part… I had been up since 2am local time (east coaster…) and was dead-tired, so I wasn’t exactly articulate. Plus, it didn’t help that my dad called me in the middle of it! (Of course, I was too tired to remember to silence my cellphone… 0_o)
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): CT
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: elite boarding school, probably in the top 20
[] Ethnicity: European-American
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: It’s changed alot since the application process started, but at all times in my life I’ve fallen under the large umbrella of ‘middle class’
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): My age? I’m pretty vanilla.
[/li]

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: For this one, I’d have to say test scores and maybe ECs.
[] Weaknesses: Interview. I’m a terrible interviewer, especially when I am sleep deprived. It shocks me that they didn’t automatically prohibit me from applying.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred//waitlisted/rejected:
It doesn’t entirely shock me as they /did/ fly me out for the McKenna Achievement Scholarship weekend, but I’m still a bit astounded they chose me as a finalist for that at all. There are some, scratch that, lots of qualified applicants in this field. Maybe my interest level, general obsession with econ/polisci, and leadership/community service helped? I dunno.
[/ul]General Comments:
Congrats to all of you who got in, sorry to those who didn’t, and have a good night!
2/3 for my top 3 choices; only have to hear from Harvard next! *grimace
