class help?

hi I am going to be a freshman and I am interested in applying to Ross. I know you have to take calc, econ 101 and english. I got a 5 on the ap calc ab exam, but i heard calc 116 at umich is very challenging. I thought about re-taking calc 115.. is that a good idea? I also got a 5 on AP Stat so i dont really want to take stat 250 instead of calc. Besides these classes, anyone have any recommendations for classes first year.

Thanks

I don’t think you need to retake calc 1 to be able to take calc 2 you kind of go over a lot of the same material again. you could always take calc 2 at a community college too if you’re so worried because again gpa is very important. i’ve heard pretty bad things about calc 2 but it really can’t be that bad, so if you’re confident in your abilities, take it. But remember that for business, it doesn’t really matter in the long run (at least I don’t believe so) and your GPA is very important. Just take in your local community college during the summer if you really need it if you think you can’t handle the class.

Ross will look at how hard your schedule is. Now, if you are very bad at math but very good at something else, it might make more sense to avoid math and try to take hard classes in whatever you are good at, but taking an easy schedule to try to keep your GPA up might backfire.

I would say that taking a math class is definitely better than taking no math class at all. I retook Math 115 after taking Calc and aced it just fine. Really look into the difference between Math 115 and 116 to decide accordingly.
