and ouch on the tuition still being around 25k a year. one suggestion i would like to make is to keep your grades and activity participation up, and towards the end of the admit season, or maybe even a couple of days after, see if the Financial Aid office can't sweeten the deal a bit.

and another note regarding Financial Aid here at COW:

please let me know in a PM when you are getting ready or are in the process of filling out your aid forms, as i know it can be somewhat daunting. i'll be available to help since i was in your shoes last year, and will have to fill out a similar form to go through the process again for this year! we also have some really nice people in the office that are available to answer questions and such. (i'll start a thread on financial aid and related topics here at COW later in the admit season)

Boognish--If Wooster is your top choice, be sure to let them know! Then, I'd advise your family to talk with Admissions and Financial Aid. As lamiller says, maybe they can sweeten the offer. It's been known to happen. Good luck! (FYI: I'm a happy Wooster mom.)

David Miller will definately try and help you out as much as possible! He's a great guy. My HS counselor knows him fairly well, and between the two of them I received nearly a full ride, AND at the tail end of the admit time! If you're genuinely serious about attending COW, there will be ways to work everything out :) I've included the breakdown of my FA offer.

later taken away since i was awarded those two 500 dollar scholarships. everything else remained the same

lamiller, what stats did you have to get an almost full scholarship? My son would like to attend there. However, he does not qualify for financial aid since I (his mother) am remarried and so is his father (although he says he is not contributing to college education - a separate battle). My son is a bagpiper, which they have the Scottish arts scholarship for, and is also hispanic, which is a funny combination. But I also expect him to come around no higher than the average of the applicants at the most. We're also in Chicago - don't know how the school views out of staters.

Crazed, is your other son the one going to study in Scotland? I think I remember that from a discussion thread about Stirling? My daughter (at Wooster)is still thinking about that for next year. I'd like to know what he decided to do. Thanks

Northeastern- Thanks!! So far he is 5 for 5. Still waiting to hear from the schools he has the most interest in and then we'll look everywhere as he has not seen most of the schools he applied to anyway. I'd like some decent merit $ to come his way as our older son will likely be in law school for 3 of the years. I see you on almost all the threads I am on!! Think we are looking at the same schools. Isn't your son a junior?

Rhsmom- Yup. Son is all set to go to Stirling. The semester runs Feb to the end of May so he'll have an especially long winter break. Keep in contact and I'll let you know specifics about the school. I found brochures he got at school and brought home and left here Thanksgiving. Looks really great. Don't know how he'll survive without the "all you can eat" cafe food. We'll get the biggest meal plan we can but he'll still have to do some cooking. Can you call eating cereal cooking?

crazed, I'm happy to hear that you son will be going to Stirling. My daughter will be looking at going second semester next year(spring 2010). I will be very interested in hearing about his experiences. Will you be able to visit? I hope we can find a way to go while she is there.

rhsmom-
We may visit.
By coincidence, and it never happens in US colleges. their spring break is Easter/Passover week when our high schooler is off from school. Makes it easy to link up and travel together, or if my son is doing his own traveling, we can cross paths. We have friends in London so we can always meet there.
Will be happy to keep you posted with everything we learn and what is needed.

i actually had (at least CC standards) mediocre stats. i was ranked 30th out of 100 in my class, and the girl who was 31st also attends COW with me :)

cumulative GPA was 3.35 (was .15 away from getting my honors diploma)
ACT composite of 24
-English 28
-Math 21
-Reading 23
-Science 25
-writing composite of 24
(6 was some subscore, i know that cause the common app asked for that 6 thingy)

annual family income for 2007 was a little over 36k

if your son is planning on applying for the Scottish Arts scholarship, the application for that is due by January 12th or February 1st. if he has his application for admission already completed but not yet submitted, encourage him to go ahead and get that in now, because it'll be less he has to worry about come beginning of the year.

i should be there during those audition weekends since i am a Music Ed major and also a member of the symphonic band. wish him good luck for me, and tell him to relax during his audition! very low pressure :)

lamiller, thanks for the info! Actually, son is a sophomore so has few years, but with his ADHD we are looking ahead to find the best fit. Daughter is a junior and I have been BEGGING her to look at Wooster because I really like what I see (we are going to visit in the spring).

i'll let you know if i end up getting that tour guide position i applied for, maybe you could request me :D lol...also, if you guys end up eating in lowry or kitt (or get the chance to), let me know ahead of time when your visit is and i may be able to stop by between classes or when i have time to eat.
