Class of '13 Applicants to NYU!

I was thinking the same things, chris. These people seem like they've been speaking English forever. Thanks, though. I was so nervous about submitting it but I wanted it out of my hands. I just can't wait for December 15 now.

so if we took the sats oct 4th, can we submit the ED app before we get the scores? Will NYU still see the scores from the test if we dont put them on the app? They will see the scores when college board sends them to NYU right?

Yep. They will, gwarner.

I have been speaking English all my life, hehe. When my best friend & I talk people ask if we're from the US or something because we don't have the Malaysian accent, although we do talk Manglish occasionally, the local version of English haha. I was raised speaking English but I can speak Malay and the occasional Mandarin. Never went to any international school though.

It's pretty cool to be you guys because I feel as if the education system in the US is really nice, unlike ours. Ours = memorizing = #1 in the whole nation, haha. not kidding. people are competing to see who gets the most As in the leaving school exams...there was this girl who took 19 subjects and got all A's. the ministry of education had to limit kids to taking 21 subjects max after her and I'm taking only 9!

quick question.
You can send in, if your applying ED through embark, Teacher recs. and other paperwork seperately?

When'd you start the application Perry? I'm such a procrastinator, it's in my Indonesian genes. We're always late to everything haha

Yeah gwarner, Oct scores come out the 22nd so good luck everybody! I'm hoping for around high 1300s, would be ecstatic if I broke 1400.

That's cool Fiona. Malaysia is a lot more Americanized than Indonesia, I gotta admit. Oh you know there's a MISS (Malaysian Indonesian Students Society) at NYU, that's pretty awesome isn't it? Haha I have a friend who came from Haiti a year ago and she has no accent whatsoever, I still think that's pretty crazy lol. She did say she went to an international school though.

Yeah memorization is huge in Asia. I can't do it, that's probably why I failed out of Chinese school so many times.

Yeah Abe, you apply through embark/commonapp online and mail out the teacher rec, counselor rec, and if you're applying ED like me, you also have to send the ED agreement form and the ED Financial Aid form if you're applying for financial aid.

From Central, New York! Applying to the College of Arts&Sciences for a major in Journalism :] I also am the editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper!

Chris, I started the application in August. I have been working on it forever and got really tired of looking at it so I just went ahead and sent it in. I got the e-mail from the admissions office saying that they received my application but could not tell me what supporting materials they have or have not yet received due to the high volume of mail they receive around this time. They gave me a Univeristy ID number and everything though. Now I'm just compulsively checking my e-mail to see if they've sent me anything about whether or not all my materials are in. I had my guidance counselor send stuff in like in September, so I'm sure they have that at least. It just makes me nervous.

^ Yeah I know the feeling. I'm itching to know if they got all my AP scores and transcripts and stuff. I'd hate for anything to get lost in the mail. :( Do you know when you'll know?

Welcome Liz! Central new york as in NYC? haha

bimachris- yeah I'm from Boston. It's a great city and all, but I'd much rather be in New York City.

Is anyone else here applying RD?

^ I'm from the Boston area too! Agreed, I like Boston, but I like New York more.

No idea. They didn't say anything in the e-mail about when I will know what they got. I check it all the time and I'm worried that I just might never know. But I'm sure it will all be OK.

^ On the NYU forum, I asked if we could call in to check what arrived and they said okay, so I don't see why not. The email's probably just says not to because they don't want every single applicant to come harassing them, you know? Haha, so go for it Perry!

What's Boston like? Does everyone have that 'Harvard Yard' accent? Haha two of my top choices are in Boston: Emerson and BU.

Hey, if you guys are already considering NYU you must all be my kind of people :) I live right outside of NYC and am applying ED to NYU and can't wait to go if i get it. I was born in NYC and am there practically every weekend and basically i can't picture myself anyplace else. I'm going to major in German which may be weird for some people but i swear I'm totally normal ! Yeah i just need to edit my essays than I'm going to send everything in. I agree NYU is definitely a party campus, because in NYC its so easy to get in the clubs etc. How is everybody doing on everything?

^^ Boston's a really nice, small city. Emerson is in a great part of it. And I don't have that accent but I live about 25 miles north of the city.

Yup, I just finished my essay yesterday (over 800 words, hope they don't kill me haha) and I'm gunna refine my short answers and....gulp submit it. And then after that I still have to do a dramatic essay for Tisch Film. <_< Sigh.

German sounds cool. Guten tag. :) I know that from X-Men haha

Emerson looks really cool, I'd totally go but, atlas...NYU calls out to me lol

Chris- forced myself to memorize this year in order to raise my grades. gee, it does help a lot. went from a 100+/150+ to 24/151! the powers of memorizing...in Asia!

I'm applying to Boston U too! My best friend's sister got an offer from Boston U to be their #1 golfer there. Nice to be an athlete and have colleges come to YOU, but it wouldn't matter in NYU's case haha.

Oh and a rant (sorry if I offended anyone in the process): I find it an oxymoron how people in the 'Chance' board goes: CHANCE ME! CHANCE CHANCE ME!!!. Then you go on and read the thread and they go: Ok thanks for chanc-ing me I'll chance you back in return. Why can't you just, you know, like, chance yourself?

Sorry to post it here, haha, but I just had to say it.

Liz- it's even easier to get into clubs here! I'm 17 and after taking advantages of some friend's contacts I could celebrate my birthday in a club...they usually don't even check your I.D. here. I've always wanted to learn German (& French & Italian), but didn't have the time.

Haha nice Fiona!

Number 1 golfer? That's pretty impressive. The only sport I'd probably play at NYU is badminton. I never played it, but it looks pretty cool. And I'm half Indo, so it should be in my genes haha. And maybe intramural bowling if they have. I'm a big bowling nerd.

Yeah chance threads. They're fun, lol.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/429308-official-nyu-12-ed-decisions-thread-58.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/429308-official-nyu-12-ed-decisions-thread-58.html</a></p>

I was just reading that thread, from the ED applicants last year. Damn, they all sound so stressed out around 12/15. Crazy, that might be us in a few months...

wow for some reason that thread just freaked me out so much i don't know what i am going to do in December and now i have a stupid math test to study for..wish me luck guys :)
