Class of 2009 (Juniors)

School starts tomorrow, yay! Let the endless (infuriating, challenging, sometimes pointless, exhausting) mental stimulation begin!

I start in like an hour.

Goodbye Summer '07

Hello Fall '07

I start in a week :)

6 APs in school
3 EPGY courses
3-4 Self-studies

Then extracurriculars. I though I was doing pretty well with those, but then I read that thread about how many hours people were doing, and now I'm really afraid. The clubs at my school don't require a lot of commitment, and I am in several of them, but my hours this year sound like they're going to total less than 30. I mean, I kinda want to do well academically, have ECs, and still have a life..

just an FYI I thought sophmore year was WAYYY harder than jr year, as did most people at my school. Junior year was a walk in the park. I had 1 hour of hw/night at the absolute max.

School starts on Wednesday for me...Junioritis has already set in.

Wow.. I just wanna applaud all you guys..

I've had about the worst luck ever when it comes to school. I was homeschooled until 8th grade, then they wouldn't put me in Algebra, Physical Science, etc. So I was a year behind in science and math Freshman year, but I caught up in Math, but I'm still behind in Science, but it's my least favorite anyway.

Another thing that sucks is my first High School was a huge school that had EVERY AP, and that you started taking them Sophomore year, they had weighted grades, they had a bunch of students, etc. Well my school I started at last year, doesn't. They have I think AP English, AP Calc, AP Bio, and AP Chem. They also don't have Honors Courses, except in English. The other thing is that my old school just had solid grades A/B/C/D/F. This school has A+/A/A-/B+ etc, and they don't use a 4 point scale for GPA, they use a 12 point scale. So basically the only B I've ever gotten was in Honors Algebra II, but it wasn't like a 80, it was an 89.4 which is 1/10 of a point from being an A. Therefore, my GPA is almost a full point lower than what it should be. I have a 10.5something/12 which is a 3.9

The other gripe I have is there are essentially no EC here, except sports and well I am definitely athletically challenged. So that's another thing against me..

Anyways heres my stats.
Rank: 3/87 (I have very little chance of improving it. Both of the girls in front of me have 11.something GPAs, because they had the luxury of earning A+s freshman year, where I didn't because of the different grading systems)
Classes this year: Honors English 11,
Pre-Calc
Chemistry I
Spanish III
US History
Accounting I
Yearbook (which is extremely time consuming, as much so as a typical EC)
I've got to do some seriously prep for the PSAT/SAT. I did pretty bad on the PSAT (I got a 170), but that was the 2nd highest in my grade, top 5 in the school. I haven't started the practice tests yet, but I'd love to break 2000 for the SAT.
I'm also trying to decide if I should take the SAT Subject Tests, I'll probably end up taking them but as of now I don't know what ones. Probably math for sure..
I also don't know that I'd be able to self teach the AP classes. I'd be too paranoid I'd miss something crucial and waste my time and money.

As far as outside school I'm supposed to be getting a part time job.
I want to be in Theatre again this year (I was Freshman year, but my mom couldn't take me to rehearsals last year because of work), but they are currently out of a director so who knows how that will go.
I also manage the Varsity Track team, but that's not until Feb.
I've been looking into Volunteering since this time last year but I haven't been able to find anything at all in this tiny town or anywhere with in 15-20 minutes.

Other than that, I want to get A's (no A-'s) in all of my classes and get all of my teachers to like me. That was my rank won't fall and if the Val & Sal girls screw up I'll have a chance. I want to at least continue to get Academic Awards (I've got the English award both years, World History award last year, as well as High Honor Roll every semester)

I wish I had your guys oppurtunities (as far as APs offered in school) and determination (for doing them even if you don't)

Oh.. and P.S. I've been in school for like 3 weeks

Well at least you have a small class and only have to deal with 3 kids. I have to deal with 665 kids in my class and then the top 33 kids who are crazy competitive and ambitious.

I took a preactice psat today I know I did terrible. Last year I did terrible too (136) and I'm guessing I probably got anything between 100 and 160 this time.

Since I've gone through a lot of ACT prep, the ACT will be fairly easy for me and I plan to get at least a 30.

My AP classes are going ok so far and I'm doing well in school.

Here's what I need to do:
-get straight A's both semesters to create huge upward trend (3.18 to 3.85)
-Get 5s on all 4 AP tests
-decide one AP subject to self-study
-Get a 30+ on ACT
-possibly get 180+ on PSAT (highly doubt it)
-NHS
-get more involved in DECA (possibly go to State and Nationals)
-finish Varsity Golf
-Do well on SAT II's (700+)
-Volunteer Tutoring (50+ hours)
-start Bike Club
-get into top 10% and possibly 5% of my class
-recieve awards/honors
-pick summer program

'09 owns
i started on the 20th
this year im takin 5 ibs and 2 aps
so far its extremely easy but that's just me...i was gonna play football but i don't have the time so i might play baseball or something later in the year.....

Yea.. I've been in school since the 14th, I haven't had any serious trouble yet. I've had a TON of homework that pretty much sucks. I've also had a test/quiz in every class but one (which I'm having Thursday) and more than one in a couple. So far, so good.. It doesn't seem like a whole lot of review though, which could end up scary.

oh. and yepp '09 is pretty much amazing haha

last weekend of summer...

junior year really isnt that bad. it flew by really quickly. senior year however is gonna be a pain cuz of the apps!!!

Yea.. I've heard from a bunch of my senior friends Junior year flew by.. I'm really hoping to spend this summer doing all my essays and stuff cause I don't want to wait until the deadlines get close next year. I'm a procrastinator by nature and I don't want to risk it.

wow junior year sucks so far

2 days left for me =(

the end of a long weekend and back to Junior-ism... sighs

I am a junior and so far about 3 weeks into school, it has already felt like living hell.

School starts next monday for me, and it already feels like living hell. (summer hw)

school starts on thursday for me, and I need to stop falling asleep at 5am in the morning or I'll have trouble getting up at 5;30 am everyday for school -__-

say, how detrimental would it be to have a free during junior year if you're aiming for a HYPS-type school?

If it was a study hall maybe...but it's supposed to be your hardest year, and it looks a bit slacky to me...
