(Class of 2010) What dorm are you picking?

I'm thinking Village C, the whole private bathroom thing is pretty hard to resist :) Anyone know what it's like socially?

i want Village C too...i can't stand public bathrooms. i'm so used to my clean bathroom at home...a bathroom that I only use unless my friends come over and need to go to the bathroom. haha. i'm so spoiled here in asia.

at GAAP last weekend they said village C was more quiet and less social since people didn't have to leave their room to use the bathroom which, for the other dorms, is a way to meet new people

I don't think anybody goes to college and says "Wow, I'm sooo looking forward to sharing a bathroom with a billion other people". It's awkward and gross for about five seconds, then you suck it up, get over it, and it's fine. No big deal.

Lol I hope there are other ways to bond than when you're in the bathroom :P I think I'll be leaving my door open a lot, and I really don't mind just knocking on someone's door and saying hi either :)

Village C is lame. The rooms are so tiny. I have no idea how people store their stuff or doing any work on the tiny desks. Common bathrooms are not a big deal at all. They're really easy to adjust to and nothing will seem weird after a little while.
Anyway, this thread is kinda pointless since you have no choice which dorm you get. People just can't comprehend that i guess, but seriously, housing is random. I would suggest not getting your hopes on anything because you have no control.

freshman cant pick dorms.

New South looked the best to me though...followed by Harbin.

I agree, New South looked by far the best to me, followed by Harbin. Village C was alright, I guess, and if I lived with someone as neat as I am I guess the private bathrooms would be cool. Darnall seems far as hell from Leo's and the rooms are tiny -- that would definitely be my last choice if I could make the call.

so how exactly does the housing system work for freshman?

You pick your roommate anonymously through CHARMS (or you go random, like I did) and get random housing. Some community theme-oriented programs are clustered together in certain dorms (e.g. McCarthy, Harbin for Living Well), but mostly random.

exactly what is CHARMS?
