Is anybody else going to do full IB? And how many AP classes does your school allow you to take soph year? At my school, it’s only one (WHAP), or if you’ve taken a language since seventh grade, APlanguage.

Are any of you going to self-study any APs? I’m thinking of doing APChem, as I’m taking Honors Chem this year… but there are mixed reviews on its easiness.

One AP allowed soph year with the exception of a language. I’m taking AP Chem too though. It shouldn’t be that hard to self study. It’s definitely different from regular chemistry, but with the right books you can probably grasp the math/concepts ‘easily’.

But I wouldn’t recommend it because without the labs, you won’t be able to skip the college courses.

I heard that AP Chemistry is completely different and more complex than Chemistry Honors. There are students in AP Chemistry who had like 100 average for Chem. Honors that are struggling and getting Cs.

Oh and btw, the world ends in 12/21/2012 lol. Sorry to disappoint anybody, most of us will graduate HS (even though it is virtually meaningless)

The world isn’t even going to end. So… everybody… quit talking about it.

Hmm… really? I was just deliberating it because I have a lot of free time. All my classes are really easy. How closely does Human Geography relate to WHAP? I was also thinking of doing that.

I took the Wed. one. I think I did relatively well? Hard to say because I always make careless mistakes in the math section. And the math curve is brutal.

Yea. The girl who sits next to me got a 100 in regular chem, and now she has a C-.

Lol…I know (yet there are school is my school who are convinced that world will end)

Anyways back to what’s relevant, I can’t say anything about Human Geography and WHAP (haven’t taken either). But AP Human Geography is arguably the easiest AP course one could take (but on the downside, some colleges don’t accept any credits for it). A few sophomores in my school do take WHAP and they say it’s brutal (mainly because of the teacher).

AP Chemistry is the one that most people in my school struggle with. If you are exceptional in math, I suppose it would be slightly easier, but self-studying might be a stretch only because of the labs involved. But it can be done although I wouldn’t recommend it.

i really don’t care that much about colleges yet, my only goal is to get into the best party school with decent academics.

everyone in my family has the same high sat/low GPA problem, because no one in my family tries.

My brother (senior) has an 3.1 GPA 2340 SAT
My Brother who graduated college had a 78 average and a 1580 SAT (out of 1600)
My other brother actually had a good balance between SAT and GPA
And my sister had a 2310 and a 3.5

Right now I have a 3.5 so hopefully I can get a good SAT, but not really worried as of now.

If I had to pick some colleges:

Clemson
Penn State
VA Tech

I guess…

i didn’t take the PSAT though because… why would i take a test on a saturday i don’t have to?

my mom signed me up for a SAT then and I scored a 2000 something (lolz), I didn’t really try and I had no prep and I got about a 5 on the essay.

My friend’s like that too. UCSB is currently her number one choice. She’s a Cali girl so she wouldn’t want to go out of state…

I’m on crutches for a month and a half :[ I really really really want to walk. I feel like my muscles are going to wither away and die if I don’t do something soon…

No APs for sophs at my school =/
But I might self study Psychology because I really love the subject and I already know a lot about it from studying it in past years for personal interest.

I took the PSAT on Saturday. I feel pretty confident about Math and Writing but I bombed CR. I’m not surprised by that because Reading has always been my weakness.

My school has an open-enrollment policy for APs - so basically you can take a [reasonable] amount of APs starting from sophomore year (and maybe freshmen year?). Most sophomores in my school are actually taking 2 AP classes, so I no longer feel special b/c I went to through torture in middle school just so I can have more options of higher level classes in high school =[. Some sophomore in my school is taking 4 AP classes (note: this is a student who consistently gets Bs/Cs – plausible move, GC). This is actually the first year the school made this open-enrollment policy (big mistake).

I personally don’t like it because: too many lazy/unmotivated people get in + not enough materials + teachers get overwhelmed by the class size + teachers end up reteaching the same thing over and over b/c people just “don’t get it” …

You can actually drop lunch from your schedule in my school to take an extra class. No one really does this except for that same sophomore taking 4 AP classes…

What language is everybody taking? And what level are you on?

I’m doing French. Right now I’m in French 2. By the time I get to AP, there are going to be maybe 15 people max in the class. That ‘class’ also includes ALL of the French 3, 4, AP, and IB students. Most other people take Spanish. My school is really small.
