Class of 2012 Appointments?

i want to add to that, i did Not get in for academics. I wont list my scores, but they are mostly bellow or at the minimum requirements. Its all the other stuff and leadership things that i do that got me in. tman i would not be discouraged, you still have a good chance for the regular admission deadline.

When updating your application with new grades, SATs, etc., what is an appropriate number of additional letters of recommendation?

I'm so excited! I got a call this morning from USCGA Admissions Office in New London saying there is an offer of Appointment in the mail (mailed yesterday). :) :) :) Definitely a GREAT CHRISTMAS gift even if I don't have it 'in my hands' yet!

Congratulations, Liz! Planning on accepting I assume?

Way to go, Liz! Is it your first choice or are you waiting to hear from others?

Zach & Luigi,

YES I'm planning to accept. USCGA is my definite 1st choice. You guys are planning on accepting also, right?

Well I'm about 20 years past the age cutoff, but I believe my son will take a long hard look at the USAFA appointment and the USCGA appointment before ultimately deciding to go to New London. ;)

Congratulations to everyone who received an Early Action appointment! If you were deferred to Regular Action, be sure to keep in touch with your Admissions Officer and submit the items requested in your deferral letter.

Go Bears!

Son's appointment accepted, signed, and returned to New London. :)

I expect lots more paperwork will be coming shortly (vaccine requests, dental records, etc).

Anyone else make any decisions yet?

Yes, I have decided to decline my appointment. Rather I sent in my accept to the Naval Academy. Best of luck to you.

he's very excited. He subsequently got a letter back congratulating him on his decision, and saying more material would be coming.

The Academy message board has a post saying the big packets of R Day instructions, etc will arrive "by May 1".

In the meantime look at the 2007 Parents Handbook which will give you a head start. They need a passport, recent dental X-Rays, and lots of other things handled before R Day!

Congratulations to those who have received appointments and accepted. The next few months will be filled with many things to do before Report In.
The 2011 Parents Handbook and Cadet handbook on the CGA Parent website are most helpful. Although there may be changes for your class they are pretty much the same from year to year. I encourage you to go to the parent website at: http://www.uscgaparents.org
There is so much information regarding what to expect for Report In day.
When it is available (usually near the end of May) I encourage you to join the 2012 list which is on the home page. This is a parent email list that will answer questions and provide information to you.

Again - best of luck. You are joining a wonderful group that have decided the "regular" college is not what they want to do. You will work hard - physically, academically, and emotionally but graduate as a mature, well rounded individual!

My cadet graduates this year and that is exciting too. BUT I remember what you are going through at this time so please ask questions, listen and make a wise decision as to where you should be next year!!!

Good luck!

Also did anyone get accepted without doing the interview in person? What types of questions did they concentrate on?

Thanks,

Future Class Mom of 2014

We are anxiously awaiting final appt decisions. Latest letter we received (3/7) said "thanks for completing your application...your record has been forwarded to CCEB for review...notify you of decision no later than May 1." But I have seen some posts that say you can hear as early as mid-Apr? We can hope.
This board is very helpful and full of good tips. Congrats to all who have been accepted!

I never did the "in-person" interview, and I got an appointment in mid-December.

But maybe attending AIM counted as my interview since the cadre did a written evaluation?

And I did shake hands with my Admissions Officer at AIM but in no way could you call it an interview as he was meeting with many of us at the time.

Zfam some people heard this week...but yes some appointments come later, some a week or so before R-day! Good luck.

thanks for the heads-up Boss! The other site I visit has a lot of increased posts the past few days, saying watch your mail the next 2wks. Would it be too obvious if I posted vigil at the mailbox? (laugh) sheesh, I'm a mess! Son (our coastie hopeful) is most even-keeled. The enthusiasm and excitement on the board here is contagious, I only hope we will be joining in soon. Good luck to all who wait, and congrats to those accepted.

Good luck, Zfam! Our fingers are crossed for you! We know how anxious this time is. Our s got his appt and he's thrilled... along with the rest of us! All the best to your son and the family!

thanks rally, and a BIG congrats to your s & family!

As we wait I had some random ?? about the admissions/notification process, would appreciate any info, this goes out to all onboard, tks in advance,

Regards to the congrats/appointment pkts sent in the mail, are the rejection/thanks,sorry notices typically sent at the same time?
How does the appointment pkt look? Is it sent regular or priority mail?
Does the Coast Guard have waitlist/deferred options, too?
Does anyone know approx how many appts are still available?
Is it true the CGA is the best, and probably most difficult, service school to get into? (ok, ok, smile, just had to add that)

Again, thanks.

Let's see...the "rejection" letters come around May 1st. The appointments can come at any time. I would imagine there are about 200 slots left. The package comes priority mail...very nice folder by the way...there is no "waiting list" or deferral at this time per se. Some kids get NAPS appointments, some get civil prep, etc. And yes it is the most difficult academy to get into. :D
