i have only mediocre math scores...but a close to perfect score in SAT2physics?! which is my intended major? ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

hmm well i noe at least one case where that isnt true. i have a really close friend who got accepted EA caltech and MIT w/o outstanding SATs... i think his scores were actually on the low side. i can't remember exactly but i know he didnt qualify for NMSF. but then he did have other stuff.. so im not really surprised. but who noes... i guess i never realized how selective caltech is. if you dont count cc, everyone i know who applied got accepted. but then thats only 5 ppl so prob not an accurate representation of the real pool

dude...that's not a necessity as far as admissions go - I mean, those last 20 points are dependent on a LOT of factors. Maybe there was a trick question that time around that you happened to miss - it's just 1 question... I got a 780 in SAT I and 770 in Math 2 ~ I doubt I got rejected cause of that. If that's the case, I shoulda been deferred.

rainynight- i think that you have demonstrated your ability in math. i doubt missing two questions on the SATs is going to be the determining factor in admissions. if it is.. i dont think i would want to go to that school anyways. but im beginning to wonder what does matter since ppl here seem to have everything and they still weren't accepted

hey indian, you said you didnt really intend on going to caltech if you got in. does that mean you didnt spend a lot of time on their supplemental? im just wondering why u would get rejected when i noe ppl who got accepted who aren't as outstanding as you are.

No, I've been thinking about it since I turned in the app (I worked hard on it! Honest!), and I don't really know whether Caltech is the right "fit" for me...I was in love with the school all before, so I worked really hard on my supplement...

.:Indian:.

You're international? That could explain some things if you feel underestimated.

Nope, SoCal :) I live ~7 minutes from Caltech..

Im thinking that the adcoms are people. people make mistakes. or maybe its just luck or fate. anyways, Indian, good luck w/ MIT! whatever happens im sure you'll have lots of great options for college

Psh, everyone knows that admissions officers are carnivorous androids...

Admissions officers build you up...just to let you down!
I'm sure in their defer/rejection letters they're all you're good but not good enough :/

Build me up buttercup!

Agh, deferred. This feels like the kiss of death.

well it would be kinda harsh to write a rejection letter straight up saying your application that you spent weeks on sucked butt and a person with your meager abilities does not belong here. ignorance is bliss...

if thats the case, and i do just suck at life, id like to know lol

I want to see the stat for those who got in!

I just got home (SoCal) to acceptance from Caltech, which I certainly was not expecting, but a pleasant surprise none the less!

Maybe I'll see some of you at prefrosh weekend (April 3-6).

emb, could you post your stats?

o btw congrats!!

SAT I:
Math: 800, Writing: 790, Reading: 750

SAT II:
Math II: 800, Physics: 800, US History: 800

8 AP tests: all 5s (Calc BC, Comp Sci A, Physics, Biology, Microecon, Macroecon, US history, World history)

I feel like with each passing moment my chances of acceptance decrease beyond a point I can even comprehend.

Man I'm so...must...relax....
