Class of 2013, were there any colleges that you regretted not applying to?

For me, it would be the University of Virginia. I had researched the school, thought that it was a good fit for me, realized that I did have a decent shot at being accepted, yet, in the end, I did not apply to it. At the time (last December), I didn't regret my decision too much, but it was only after April rolled around that I realized I made a terrible mistake.

But regardless, I got a near-full ride to Boston College, so hopefully that would be a good substitute. BC had many similar qualities to UVA, so I wasn't that terribly fussed. Both schools have Division I sports, plenty of school spirit, and good business programs. I do not feel so regretful anymore!

How about you guys?

I regret not applying to the University of Florida in a way. I purposely decided to miss the deadline because my parents probably would have forced me to go, and applied to NCF as my in-state option because I figured my parents would never make me go. Before we sent my deposit to NYU, I had been really scared that they would force me to go to NCF. I realized then that I probably would have preferred UF to NCF, but that’s irrelevant now.

I also regret not applying to Reed. I really loved the school while I was researching it, but chose not to apply because my parents are very anti-west coast.

Overall, though, I’m very happy with my decision to attend NYU, and probably would have chosen NYU regardless of whether I had applied and been accepted to those schools.

St. Mary’s College Of Maryland
UNC-Asheville
College Of Charleston

I regret not applying to Stanford. I meant to, and started the essays, but for some reason decide not to finish them/submit the application.

i regret not applying to yale. it was such a crapshoot at that level for me that one more school i liked (but was too scared to try for) would’ve been nice. i told myself i’d only apply to one of h&y… and i was waitlisted at h. just didn’t pursue it.

I didn’t apply to Harvard. i didn’t apply because i simply didn’t want to. but i would have liked know what the outcome would have been.

Macalester
Kenyon
Whitman
Vasser

Notre Dame.

Notre Dame.

UVA, I loved the school but the area around it turned me off completely. They also hate my school, I guess UNC and UVA tend to reject kids fairly frequently from each others states.

stanford, because I would love to be back in california eventually and they seem to significantly lower their admissions standards for my school, which makes no sense.

I really liked UVA until I visited there when my dad had a conference there. The school was far too preppy for me.

Should have applied to MIT

but whatever, I got into Caltech.

Though I ended up choosing Stanford because I didn’t want to live probably the best 4 years of my life in a geeky environment (which means that even if I had gotten in, I would not have gone). I rather go there for grad school.

Like you, I wish I applied to UVA. I also regret not applying to Vandy or Wake Forest. And a teeny little bit of me wishes I applied to Wisconsin, just because it looks like fun.

All very high reaches, but here are some i’d really have liked to go to

Stanford
BC
UCSB
UNC
UVA

Wake Forest

U chicago
and Columbia ED

I have legacy at Columbia but I found out my SAT scores jumped dramatically only a week before the ED deadline. Also, my senior grades were a step up from my previous grades so I feel like that I needed to wait, but I didn’t even apply RD.
I should’ve applied Uchicago EA too.

Wisco is fun. You are missing out :D

I regret applying to BC and Holy Cross. They weren’t good fits for me at all and I don’t know why I applied.

I wish I applied to Vassar and Oberlin instead, but I’m definately happy with my choice. :)

I really regret not applying to Georgetown and Yale. My academic record is nothing spectacular, but admission to Yale is such a crapshoot that I should have applied to my DREAM school with a capital D. Also, after visiting Georgetown, and speaking with a student there, I realized that I could have gained admission and that I would have loved it there. The guy I was talking to really wanted me to go there too.

I realize that a 3.75 weighted GPA and a 1940 SAT might not cut it under regular circumstances, but as an African-American, I think my chances would have been decent. I’m not saying that minorities do not have to work hard to go to college, or that admission based solely on race is acceptable. However, many of my friends who are minorities and did not have the 2400 SAT or the 4.0 GPA got into great schools like WUSTL, Brown, Yale, Georgetown, etc.

A lot of regrets, but I’m happy to be attending Howard University. I’m looking forward to transferring somewhere down the line.

Cambridge University (UK), UVA, and Princeton. Glad I didn’t apply to Yale and Columbia. Still attending my second choice, so no regrets here.
