Class of 2014 From Nepal

Why do you have a problem with Rato Bangala? Any problem with BNKS?

@To all Class of 2014

-Don’t run behind the fame of elite schools-some small schools are also really good-Don’t go behind what your friends do-think yourself, plan yourself, test yourself and that’s all.Don’t listen others for your sake-listen them for learning sake not for acting sake.

-As i felt this and last year’s trend was like that "It’s like, i mean like mandatory to apply to good colleges even we don’t have such status. So,choose colleges -not more than 10 - i think **3 reach,3 level and 3 safety and 1 that would surely give you full aid **-that’s enough. After all you will go to only one college at a time. But throw your first application as soon as possible ,like October End to low tier safety colleges even if you have stellar scores,so that you can learn something for your Early Decision and make impressive CV,applications and can edit essay a lot then after. Not only that, some safety colleges would give full scholarship to their very early applicants and discard other late applicants from enough aid.As University of New Orleans,Louisiana,Colby-Sawyer College,NH, and Lee University,TN did this year.

-The most important thing is “Ghati herera haad nila-arka ko ghati herera nabasa.”
What most of us think is that-if my friends applied there,i may have also chances. Some applied to colleges without doing research like how many Nepalis are applying this year-what are their scores,Do they give financial NEED Based Aid to internationals and if admitted what is the chances of getting visa there?Don’t be frugal abt Postage cost and apply to same college that your friends had applied…pachhi pachutauchha.

-I categorize these colleges:
Plan Early not later than Nov1 for scholarship deadlines and Greater Chances:

1.Worcester Polytechnic Institute
2.Rollins College
3.University of New Orleans
4.Lee University
5.Colby-Sawyer College
6.Brigham Young University
7.Depauw University
8.Dordt College
9.Saint Anselm College
10.Loras College
11.The Richard Stokcton College of New Jersey
12.And other colleges-search and search-i know a lot but cannot remember them now-I could not apply that time because those colleges have scholarship deadlines on or before Dec 1 and they didn’t provide need based aid to internationals.

Less Familiar Colleges for Us:

1.Muhlenberg College
2.Hobart and William Smith College
3.Colby-Sawyer College
4.San Jose State University
5.Franklin W.Olin college of Engineering
6.Moravian College
7.Principal College(Reqd church letter-aid tanna chha-nakkali banaye hunchha church ko ta)
8.Drew University

Familiar but Underestimated Colleges:
1.UNO
2.BYU
Among these two colleges,UNO gives almost full scholarship to Internationals if you apply as early as November first.
and BYU is far better than most of the colleges-Largest Private University in USA-ranked better than Harvard,Yale,MIT and Stanford in some aspect-but church affiliated so Nepali have chance of being accepted so that they can flourish their religion.

Just applying to get to America is a stupid idea. If you’re going to apply ED, don’t just throw it away. Apply at the best college you think you can get into. After all, thats what ED is for. If you just want to go to a crappy school with a good scholarship then fine, but usually, if a good school accepts you for ED, they’ll give you good aid.

If you just want to get to America because you think its the “land of opportunity” or that you can abscond after your 4 years at college then think again. Its important to learn and get a good degree from a good school. Otherwise, you’re stuck for life washing dishes, waiting tables and pumping gas. Is that really what you want to do with your life?

Apply to schools that match you. Do a little research, ask people on forums and look online. Apply smart.

Agreed with both.

Just wanted to give a shout out from the Indian thread. So…hey! And good luck for everything this year, guys!

yeh my fellow ‘dhoti’s’. you guys will always get good colleges. It’s Nepali’s that suffer…

Why would that be?

@tertisfan have you finalized on your list yet?

My advice would be to go slow and planned… Just don’t go for babaal colleges/university. It is better to be safe than sorry.

@gurung
i’m a bnksian not a rato bangali… hehehe
i’m not a +2 student either
n i really hope u’ve got nothin against bnks

No, I have many friends at BNKS… Are you currently sitting for A-levels exams?

all your colleges are belong to us

Hey can the pass outs suggest one school/college that current students shouldnot even think to aply to? and the reasons for it?

@tahalka: nice one.

@gurung: stop being a racist. its one thing to oppose indian hegemony and another to be a bigot.

@gurung again: St Johns College, Maryland. If you’re into literature, I couldn’t think of a better place.

c’mmon more posts more posts, seniors!!!

think, o.k., tetris is a good guy, he probably did not understand that. anyways, i wont do it again.

^Tetris is a girl!

And did u get my PM???

What the heck? a girl? how did you know? Yeh, bro, i got the PM and thanks a lot lot for it…
Actually, I too am thinking of preparing at the USEF although I have volunteered there from the last two years…

@gurung: Thanks man. I’m glad you understand. Most people would be instantly defensive and go all out on an racist rant. Nepal needs more people like you. You seem like a smart, intelligent guy. Make sure that comes through on your application and you should get into good places. Anytime you need help with your essays, PM me.
