Class of 2015 from Nepal

@confidential: For the 3+2 programs you are NOT guaranteed admission to the other university for the final 2 years–you’ll have to pass their requirements first(for this check out your college’s website and get in touch with respective professors in your college)Even if you do get in, then comes the part with aid. All the places i looked into pretty much deterred applicants from choosing the 3+2 program because you aren’t guaranteed to receive the same aid you received in your first 3 years. As for your 3.0 gpa requirement and “guaranteed aid,” I’m not sure where you got that info from BUT the only reliable source of info you can find about this is through the head of departments(or whoever is in-charge of the 3+2 thing.) So, get in touch with them as of now.

@ prasadian, i think you can change the name of college pretty much anytime before the test day. I think changing it after the test might be risky in many ways…but thats not impossible…

@prasadian>
i got to name my score recipients only about 10 days after my actual test (SAT I) so i dont think that’s gonna be a problem. but you gotta name your final recipients for TOEFL before the test.

yeah i made a mistake of not naming the TOEFL recipients…before the test date…as i thought TOEFl would have same policy as that of Coll board…But i was wrong…Highlight this is…very important!!!

thnxs guys …im gonna change the names this instance!!! zappp

seniors …wanted to ask about the mid yr report in common apps ???
whats with the 1st semester, 2nd semester n trisemester ???
can u tell me about AP as well , dont know what it REALLY means???

since u are +2, i think that’s the same courses you take…1st term, 2nd term and pre-board term. i.e. for 12;
HSEB English 202,
HSEB Nepali 206,
HSEB Physics 210,
HSEB Chemistry 216,
HSEB Mathematics 216 (or bio 214)
and(if available) HSEB computer science 230…

Its nearly same for all the science students in Nepal, HSEB, only the computer/maths/bio will be different.

AP exams are given to take college credits (some credits in subjects you wish to take after getting accepted into a college) A levels/IB has more credits than AP’s so it is redundant for those students…They’re like SATII’s buit more advanced and they even have practical/lab-based designing experiments questions…+2 student should definitely give it if they want too…I am also giving it despite my A levels qualification this year because i have nothing else better to do at the moment…so why not AP?.. The deadline for this year of May June AP exams was in January… For next year, AP exam deadline will be around January 2011.

To register for AP exams, i recommend you visit Lincoln School…and look for an AP Coordinator there… She is a Newar and is pretty cool to be with/ talk to…

+2 students taking AP>
do make sure that the AP exams wont clash with your board exams. I couldnt take the AP exams=BIG mistake/BIG loss. so think ahead.

yes…it is not possible for +2ers to give APs since AP exams clashes with Boards this year…our bad!!!

and yeah giving APs just dont increase your chance of gettin into college…good SATs, essay and Transcipt is all you need…just see the trend…u dont even need extra activities unless ure thinking of some ivies…LACs hardly look for extras…i haven’t heard anybody getting into good college simply because of their ECs…its all bollshyt…see 2014’s acceptance…stag, duke99, ccprofile, 3333 all got into good colleges just because of their good SATs, essay and Transcipt and not because of some ECs …so i dont at all suggest my dear frens to waste time in ECs for the sake of gettin into good college…as for myself…i spent (infact lost) huge time visiting a bunch of organizations…they did not fascinate me at all…these organizations don’t go to the root level…they just enjoy some occasions withing themselves…they do no good for the welfare of society and people…they do these unnecessary events just to draw money from foreign donors…if u you are talented than show them your works through supplements…stag did the same…he did not have much ECs but since he is a prolific artist…he sent his works through art supplement…and he got in…all i wanna say is go for some real works…show them your real gem…dont for god sake give them the wrong impression…

it may be the case for high scorers, but for average, ECs are very helpful. I din have good SATs, nor impressive transcripts. but I had strong ECs and i got in. And, ECs are not a waste of time.

You cannot pin down what admission officers look for…DOnt do that…its a big mistake… Just give your best shot in all arenas and hope for the best…DOn’t Speculate about admissions process…OK? is?

ROCKHARDABS says it right. do your best in all the fields! never ever second guess the admission officers. just be honest and do your best.

is.

lol 10char

is

@sixstringsrocker
what r those num. representing after the subjects???
these arent the hseb xam codes…

I second what Rockhardabs said, none of us have any clue as to what the admissions officer look for, none at all. So, do participate in a few ECs; however do not let the participation affect other parts of your app.
Also, if you’re unable to take the AP tests, then don’t worry about it. If you expect the APs to provide a definite edge in your application, then don’t bother with them at all because that’s not going to happen. Just focus on your transcript.

@Prasadian: Just write down the subjects you took in grade 11 & 12 in the 1st and the 2nd semester respectively., like sixstrigrocker showed;however, you may leave out those subject codes as those aren’t necessary at all.

P.S. This would be just about the right time to start on your personal statement.

I want to correct something here about AP…What I meant was that students from +2 who have been admitted should give AP’s if they want to… Those tests are meant for college credits…So why bother to give before when your are not even accepted?? xD xD …ok is?

sorry dude, i made a mistake: HSEB codes got mixed up; english’s 004, Nep 006, chem 212…

but as ccprofile said, you dont really need them. just mention the subjects.
