Class of 2016 Brown RD Applicants

So it’s 7PM or 5PM EDT? I’ll actually be glad if it’s 7PM because 5pm there meant 2pm here, and it’s 15 minutes before the school ends. I was worried because my teacher is super strict, and I thought I would just wait 15 minutes.

Good Luck to everyone!!! This still doesn’t feel real!

That is very strange that there were two different emails… I am from the Midwest, and mine said 7pm EDT

March 22, 2012

Beginning March 29, 2012 applicants to the Class of 2016 can access admission decisions on the web at:

Brown University Admission Decision

We suggest that you bookmark this site; your admission decision will be available online no sooner than 5:00 EDT.

Please note that we will not be mailing decision letters. To access the online service, you will need the username and passkey emailed to you earlier this year by the Office of College Admission, not the PIN and password you received if you applied online. Please follow these steps to ensure that you can successfully log in:

Go to http://selfservice.brown.edu to log in to your applicant account.

If you cannot successfully log in to the above, please visit the following site for automated login assistance: https://webapps.brown.edu/pwdreset</a>
If you continue to have login issues, please call our CIS Help Desk at 401-863-4357, option 1. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. Please note that they can only speak with the applicant. You must contact them by Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
Again, your official admission decision will be available to you on March 29. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

FAQ to Check Decision

I typed my Username and password and cannot connect to the site, what should I do?

The Office of College Admission sent you two separate email messages, both with the subject of “Your Brown Application”. The first email sent to you contained your username along with activation instructions and the second email contained your passkey. You should be using this username along with the password you selected when you activated your account with your initial passkey. If you did not receive these email messages from the Office of College Admission, or are having trouble connecting, please contact our CIS Help Desk at 401-863-4357, option 1.

After I activated, I typed in my username and password but I get an authentication error?

Try resetting your password by using our automated online password reset. If you are presented with a security question which is blank, or you are unable to use this online method while using one of our supported browsers (Minimum recommendations are Firefox 3.6 and above or Internet Explorer 7 and above) then you must contact our CIS Help Desk at 401-863-4357, option 1. Please note that phone lines will be busy during this time of year. Please also note that, due to FERPA laws, we can only assist the applicant with account issues.

This is all what I got… I’m so confused…

I’m from Kentucky. Does this make a difference??

Well I’m from Washington, and I got 7PM EDT.
This is really weird. I hope they clarify on this ASAP. People are gonna start speculating, which is never a good thing!!

oh my… I’m so freaking out right now

I received one (I live in NJ) that said “6:00 EDT”. So there seems to be 3 batches.

The different decision times are staggered so that they don’t have 30,000 people at once rushing their server. It doesn’t have anything to do with the probability of acceptance… speculation will probably persist despite my saying this, but it’s really just a precautionary measure on their part so that everyone will be able to check their decision instead of everyone getting blocked out of an overloaded website.

Can everyone post the Brown decision time and their time zone?

It’s very possible. But I’m pretty sure that they know people will communicate. What if people who received the email saying 7:00 check at 5:00???

I personally think that there is nothing to do with the time zone…

I wonder if this happened in past years?

They are providing staggered time slots to different batches in order to avoid what happens when 28,000 students try to login all at once and find that no one can get in.

@texaspg that makes sense!

I wish I had the 5pm time slot though… Not that two extra hours matter in the long run though haha

But does it mean that people who got 7pm EDT can get in at 5pm EDT?

Do you guys think that they sorted it by the time zone?

But there’s no way to stop the people who got the 7 PM time from checking at 5, like someone else mentioned. Seriously, is anyone who got the 7 PM time NOT going to check at 5 PM EST? And some/most will be checking (all day) well before that multiple times…

Brown did this last year too (and possibly years before) and the decision times ended up having no significance as to whether you got in or not. It’s just to keep their server from getting too clogged up, as other people have said. I got the 6PM email too (I’m from central Pennsylvania)

why do people assume it’s “PM” it just says 7:00 EDT. Could be AM?

Mine said 6 (NJ) and I also assumed AM not PM

Because it’s PM for all other ivys, and it’s been PM for the past years.
