I am currently a sophomore (class of 2017) and have been thinking a lot about the situation futon our hands.
The best options I found:
Take the ACT in the fall and the SAT in the spring (junior year) and then retake whatever is needed in the fall of senior year
Take the old SAT in the fall then either the new one in the spring or the ACT: The main issue i see with this is you have to study for essentially 3 tests. The current sat, new sat, and the act.
Another option is to wait it out and take the new sat in the spring and go from there
Could I have some input on what other Class of 2017 students will be doing…
Any strategies or ideas that I did not mention. Any sophomores willing to share their plan…
I’m a sophomore, and I’m taking the Old Sat in March . I find it to be better because there is years worth of prep material to choose from, whereas with the New Sat there won’t be nearly as much. Additionally, some of the New Sat books may be inaccurate in their methods/approach because of lack of time to become accustomed to the test. Prep Companies only know as much about the test as we can figure out.
Thanks for your input! i know its too late for me to take the sat in march and i just don’t want to have do deal with having ‘a last chance’ to take the test…do you plan to take the act? @IvyBound511
No problem ! And I might take the ACT either Junior or Senior year depending on how things go with time in terms of AP exams, clubs, homework, etc @Redsox31
I’m a sophomore, I still need to talk to my Dean of Students but I’m planning on taking the SAT this June (I was going to take it in May but it’s during finals so I decided not to do that.) This way I can take the current SAT format again in the fall if need be without having to worry about the Redesigned SAT (I’d prefer not to take the ACT but I can always take that Junior year as well)
I’m a sophomore and I’m planning to take the old SAT in September and then the new one January. Then I may take ACT or not depending on how well I do on my SAT.
