I'm one of the unlucky 2017ers who are guinea pigs for the new SAT. This means that all the prep I did will essentially go to waste. Should I take the current SAT spring of sophomore year to see if I can get 2300+, before the changes go into effect?

New exam format will not be administered until March of your Jr year, so you do not need to rush to take the exam during your sophomore year. You can take it Oct, Nov, Dec or Jan of your Jr year.

If you feel like you want to, go for it. I imagine that schools will take the old scores for a while. Try the ACT too as well as that is what the new SAT is going to be similar to. Get an idea of which you are better at, and practice for that.

I’m also a 2017er, except I haven’t been studying for the current SAT. I would always criticize my friend for studying since he was like 10. Thankfully I didn’t start studying, like he did, from such an early age.
I think I would fare better on the current SAT too. I might take the SAT in the spring of my sophomore year, take the PSAT in junior year and see if there is any improvement. If there is, I’ll go full out for the new SAT.
There’s also the ACT!

I’m definitely taking the ACT, but I don’t really like it since it feels like a copout

yea i would, especially if u already studied for it. i dont see any top colleges taking the “new” SAT seriously…

Yeah, I would just because there are so many more resources out there for the old SAT, on top of all the studying you’ve done already.
