In for fall, send your act score

My son had very similar stats as an OOS applicant, he applied and was accepted into the College of Engineering. PSU is an excellent school for engineering - would have liked for him to attend but couldn’t justify the $40k+ price tag for OOS tuition/room/board vs. comparible in state options. I think you son’s chances are strong as long as you’re not scared off by the cost!

My DS is an NROTC candidate. If he is awarded the NROTC scholarship the price tag would be a non-issue. PENN is his on his “B” plan as a 3rd option. His “B” plan No.1 option is University of South Carolina, No.2 is North Carolina State University, No.3 PENN, No.4 BU and No.2 Union. His “A” plan is the Naval Academy. He was selected to attend the summer seminar this year so we shall see. His class GPA and standing just went way up this week, he was quite pleased.

Penn usually refers to the “University of”, in Philadelphia. The school in State College is usually called Penn State or PSU. I am curious why he would choose USC over PSU for engineering if price is not an issue. Good luck to him!

Thank you… I forgot the ST after the PENN. We visted PENN after Nova, he did not like the area.

For what ever reason he liked the engineering program and NROTC unit at the University of South Carolina best , North Carolina State University was very close to that. In fact I don’t think he has firmed up his 1 & 2 choice yet, he has until July to make up his mind.

Being an engineer myself my thoughts are with you; PENN ST has a very impressive program. What I do know is he looked at the engineering programs, the NROTC units, the schools and their locations. He made a few lists of likes and dislikes and made a decision. The process has taken quite a bit of time. I also know that the NROTC unit at PENN ST fills quickly so that may have played into the final decision.

In the end the school will not make much of a diff. all three (or 5 really, oops I put Union as 2, it should be 5) are great schools. If he gets the NROTC the experience from being in the Navy will carry him through a 20 year hitch or land him a nice job in the private sector once he finishes his 5 year contract.

All this is only if he does not get selected to the Naval Academy which is his “A” plan No.1 choice. He will have a real good idea once he is done at the summer seminar. Packed and ready to go, can’t wait to drop him off, I know exactly where I’m having lunch.

Than there is plan “C” which is if he does not get either of the above.

Different subject: His long term goal (or pipe dream as I see it) is to go back to law school and be a patten lawyer. I could see how the engineering degree would be an asset if he did that.
