@snb123 I feel you!! My stats are very low for UF, nevertheless they accepted me. I also wonder what they saw in my application that made them accept me. Right know I don’t know what to do since I was convinced on going to UCF…UF was not even an option for me, but I guess I was wrong.

@cobrasnake96 yeah I was really set on going to the U (I know, UFs rival school haha) but now since I have gotten into UF I really have no idea what im going to do. Its making me reevaluate everything. Ill be down to visit both in 2 weeks because I know comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges…they are both so different.

Some have mentioned on here that your intended major had something to do with your selection(or not). I asked an admissions counselor a few years ago, why wouldn’t an applicant pick a relatively obscure major, to get in, then switch? She said “a freshmen is a freshmen”. “Intended” major didn’t matter, since there is nothing binding about it. If someone has information to the contrary I’d be interested to know.
thanks

@oldbull2 you’re correct. The only exception are those freshman that have earned an AA while in high school (through DE). Those also have to be “accepted” by their college.

UF’s yield is around 52%, so about 1/2 of the students offered admissions will accept and enroll.

Someone earlier mentioned that UF may not have accepted some students, because their stats where too high. This is called yield protection (or Tufts Syndrome, since Tufts is infamous for this behavior). One factor used in ratings is yield, so some colleges may be not offering admittance to students they think are using their university as a safety. I have no clue if UF is doing any such thing. I would think not, with the exception of some very high stat out-of-state students, and instead they look at demonstrated interest, legacy, etc.

I got rejected but I was offered something called Gator Engineering at Santa Fe. Which after reading into basically means I would go to Santa Fe, a community college and after three semesters I would be automatically transferred into UF. Would anyone be willing to offer me advice on this? I’m still waiting to hear back from 7 other schools and my top choice which is Penn State. But if all else falls through should I do the Gator Engineering program? I got accepted into FIU but that would mean staying home and having to wait longer to transfer into UF.

A couple of things to note with the Gator Engineering at Santa Fe program.

“Unlike a transfer program, students will be admitted to the University of Florida after the first fall semester at Santa Fe College if they have met the performance standards established by the program”

So it is easier to get into UF vs. a Transfer Student (which can be very competitive, based on your major).

The other thing to note, is that it only currently supports 6 majors, including computer engineering, computer science, digital arts and sciences, electrical engineering, materials and science engineering and nuclear engineering.

If you really want to go to UF, and start joining clubs and going to games, this is a much quicker path than the standard transfer student option. You move to Gainesville, like any other Freshman (except you don’t live in a dorm your first year), and after one semester you can start participating in UF activities.

If you went to FIU (and lived at home), you would save a bunch of $$$, and if you keep your grades up, could then transfer to UF as a junior.

Thank you so much for your response, Gator88NE. Although FIU, would be a lot cheaper the quicker transition and guarantee of admission is much more appealing.

Enjoy your time at UF and remember to always put classes first. UF can be tough and many of you will notice that after the first semester. However, keep in mind that is the value added by institutions like this one and it will prepare you for anything you decide to pursue after your undergraduate career. Go Gators! ***
