Class of 2019 Boston College Early Action

@debateislife‌ the “portal change” everyone is referring to is on the home screen when you log on. there are tabs that say F and P. and then if you click on applicant status it will open up a separate window that allows you to pay your non-refundable enrollment deposit.

@collegemomjam‌ wow, was it really the most selective group in the school’s history? that’s amazing! what exactly did the letter say that indicated that?

Finally got my letter today… deferred. Does anyone know what percentage of applicants were deferred and what percentage of deferred applicants have gotten in previous years?

@debateislife‌ the portal change is an f and p tab did you get that?

@anniemalfarm‌ Here is a copy of the invite to the local reception in New Jersey

Admitted Student Reception
BOSTON COLLEGE

Congratulations! We are pleased to learn of your acceptance to Boston College. The early admission process for the Class of 2019 was the most selective in the school’s history, making you one of the best and brightest high school students nationwide. As representatives of the local alumni program, we’d like to invite you and your parents to an informal reception to meet members of the BC community and other admitted students.

@As444555 No. I never got an email from Boston College stating my username or password information for portal. And when I tried to set it up it didn’t work. So I didn’t get a portal change so much as I was never able to get on portal in the first place. I assume my application had been received because they emailed me saying so but I never bothered to check the status of my application online (which was probably stupid).

I also have yet to get a letter from Boston College. I guess because I live in Seattle. Gonna see if I get any mail tomorrow (since it won’t come today because its Christmas) and if nothing happens I will have to call them up.

Also I will be sending the mid year report and I have an A in all my courses this year.

BC is my #1 school

Chances? All responses appreciated!

@Mfrias sounds like you’re a really strong applicant, especially the last three awards. The only thing I would say is hurting you is probably your test scores if I’m being honest (even though they’re good to begin with). It seems like you have a good shot RD though so I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you @ekbf1997‌ , yes I’m sending those awards in now along with my mid year report. Hoping for the best, I’m also in the top 10% of my class composed of 424 students if that helps

I’m from New Jersey but didn’t get an invite to the Admitted Students reception?

@Mfrias I think you have a good chance for RD. I agree that your scores are a little low, but I’m glad that the lowest is your writing because I think that CR and Math are the more important ones. You are doing the right thing by sending your supplemental accomplishments. How are you sending them? If you aren’t already doing so, maybe you could send them directly to the admissions counselor that covers your area of Florida? Also, are you applying to Arts and Sciences or CSOM? I’m not sure if there are any forums for people that got into BC RD that were deferred ED, but maybe you could find some and see if anyone has any suggestions. Keep trying you are definitely not out of the running and sounds like you are a great applicant.

@nickb14 where in New Jersey do you live? Maybe the reception is by region?

@Mfrias another thing…BC seems to really evaluate students holistically and it seems like you definitely have a very well rounded application, so that should help too! Good luck!

@collegemomjam‌ hey! Yes I am sending a letter through email to the person who covers my area? Should I also CC the director of admissions John Mahoney? I am applying to CAS specifically communications. Any suggestions?

Just out of curiosity, where is everyone who got deferred applying for RD? and is BC still your top choice?

@Mfrias Yeah you should probably CC the director of admissions, it couldn’t hurt. Funny, I’m also applying communications and from Miami.

@emjamo1196‌ I’m from CA and I am still going for RD. I don’t really have a top choice right now by I’m confident that BC is at least in my top 3

Deferred! Oh well, at least not a rejection. I’m from Seattle, 3.96 UW GPA, 2090 SAT and 33 ACT and a lot of theatre and choir ECs. I will still be hoping for RD, though I have other schools that are less reachy that I’m considering super highly because of money reasons. We’ll see!

Deferred at CSON. Haven’t seen anyone on the thread mention CSON yet. Overview of stats: 4.0 uw, 4.69 w, 32 ACT, scholastic bowl team captain, chemistry club, national honor society, state scholar, FBLA, WYSE competitive testing, Youth Leadership Institute, Junior Auxillary volunteer at hospital, hospital internship in People services starting next year, took two college classes over the summer and got A’s in both (Sociology and Community Health). Thrilled I wasn’t rejected. I got into SLU (18k/year) and Case Western (full tuition) already. SLU is Jesuit, so if I don’t get into BC, I’ll at least have SLU as an option for a Jesuit education. Definitely have my eye on Case with the full tuition though. Good luck to all deferred applicants in the RD round.

Accepted to Georgetown, but deferred from BC, so I’ll probably end up there

Deferred. Letter finally received today. I live in Seattle. I did not receive a portal change lol.

3.81 UW GPA.
Take all Honors courses available.
Good essays.
Strong ECs.
